September 16, 1009      Milwaukee Frosties at Cincinnati Kids, Game Two

 

Nolan Ryan (10-13) vs. Mike Cuellar (12-14)

 

Robbie Alomar and Edd Roush single to start game against Cincy’s Mike Cuellar.  Eric Davis comes to bat; he’s a lefty-killer . . .but he pops up to second against Cuellar.  First baseman Rip Collins grounds into a DP to end the threat.

 

In the 4^th, Collins walks against Cuellar and with 2 out, Charlie Keller singles to right bringing Collins to third.  But SS Dobie Moore grounds out to end the inning.

 

In the 5^th, the Frosties press Cuellar again.  Catcher Earl Battey singles and Alomar’s 3^rd hit of the evening is a double that puts pressure on Cincy: 2^nd and 3^rd with one out.  Roush bashes one back to the mound and Cuellar boots it!  Battey scores and the Frosties go up, 1-0.  After a Davis strikeout, Rip Collins delivers both runners with a 2-out triple to make it 3-0. 

 

In the 6^th, Moore doubles and walks to 3B Harlond Clift and Battey load the bases with 1 out.  Cincy brings in Sparky Lyle to try to get a DP.  But Alomar delivers his 4h hit, a 2-run double, to make it 5-0, Milwaukee.

 

In the home 6^th, Cincy puts together a hit, a force play, and a John Henry Lloyd single to cut the score to 5-1.  Nolan Ryan looks good on the mound for Milwaukee, though.

 

And things go from bad to worse for Cincy in the 7^th.  After a walk and a single, Charlie Keller delivers a 3-run homer deep into right field to push the lead to 8-1! 

 

The teams swap runs late in the game and Ryan finishes with 11 Ks and the victory.  The teams will travel to Milwaukee with the series tied at 1.
