Secondly, I've a few thank yous I have to make as well. Firstly, I believe Steve Knight deserves enormous credit for volunteering to go in goal when we've been short in recent times, despite his illness. Nobody likes filling in between the sticks at the best of times, because it's the hardest position to play in. But to do it when you're ill when it would have been easier to stay at home with your feet up is a great effort. Along these lines, thanks to Chard as well, who has already played more than his fair share between the sticks of late too. And thanks to everybody who has tried (often in vain) to encourage others to help us out when short. Sometimes organising the team can become very frustrating, especially if you are being let down, so it's good when you know you're not trying alone.
On the footballing side, I've been pretty pleased with our performance this year. Losing Weekes was a bit of a blow, especially if your other defender gets suspended after about 3 games for no apparent reason. Mark Hurcombe's return therefore has been a timely one, and I think his performances have improved game after game, as you see his match fitness returning. Sam Waymont has also done well, especially against Stout Fellas and Cliffe Woods. I think the rest of us have picked up from where we left off last season, with possibly Chard Sands putting in some of the best performances, and Juan Box being the most consistant.
As long as we keep enjoying our football and keep fielding a strong line up every week, we'll always be there or there abouts.
