| Starting from humble beginnings, nobody expected Juventos 2000 FC to become one of the 5 a side footballing megapowers of the modern world. The club was born in theory during a free period in the common room. A few phone calls later and a month on the waiting list, and the Tos were playing their first game. It was ironically against Strollers, a side who would go on to become a bogey side, despite their frailties. The starting line up that day was: 1. John Box 2. George Weekes 4. Matt Kelly 3. Luke Donovan 7. Simon Fowler Bench: 5. Ram Chahaun 6. Ranvir Kang Steve Box was missing as it was arranged at short notice and had already agreed to work. Juventos lost that game 4-2, and had Matt Kelly sent off, but with Rome's 2 goals grabbing the headlines. Ashley Botton joined the team at the end of the first season, and Mark Hurcombe joined halfway through the second. This meant the squad now amassed to 8, and so a squad rotation system was introduced. This lasted until the start of season 3, when Mark and Ram left for university. George left at christmas to move to Canterbury for uni too. Chard Sands was bought in, and the squad was now down to 6. When Ashley left at the end of the season, numerous loan signings, mainly Matt Turner, filled in the gaps. John/Luke Steve Luke/John Simon Chard Bench: Matt Turner The team has undergone many transformations since, and nearly folded when a number of players left in 2002 to move to Canterbury, closer to university. The winter season of 2003-2004 saw the team as a bit of a hotch potch, never able to field the same side two weeks running. Despite this, Tos claimed its usual mid table position. Things settled down in the summer season, with the team at the top of the table for well over half the season, and Chard Sands and Luke Donovan grabbing 14 and 13 goals respectively. The end of the season also saw the return of vice captain, Simon Fowler. The Winter 04/05 season was very much a season of two halves. The first half was spent trying to cement a regular team, and bedding in some of the returning stars. The club finished in 5th position, equalling its highest ever finish. But more importantly, the squad progressed. Steve Knight has become a regular. George Weekes and Simon Fowler returned with a bang to the first team, with Fowler finishing top of the scoring charts and Weekes consistently putting in excellent performances. And James Lancaster has improved no end, becoming a very essential member of the squad. The side also appears to have sealed the signing of Luke Donovan on a part time contract, but he is expected to play more often than not. The future of John Box is less clear. The club ended the season, having won 12 of the last 14 games. Remarkably, it did not record a single draw. The summer season of 2005 was another season of progression for the 'Tos. For the first time, El Submarino Azul got Champions League football thanks to their fourth place finish. They also were the only team to take points off winners Mike Reed. 'Tos had the best defence in the league. 'Tos only had to play an outfield player in goal once, as the rest of the time they had either Juan Box, Luke Donovan, Big Phil or Tony Curtis in goal, all of whom played well. This year also saw a much improved Matt Turner make a significant impact on his couple of outings. |
