On 12/17/06, Moni Aizik put on a Commando Krav Maga seminar at the Shaw Jewish Community Center in Akron, Ohio. The seminar was attended by people with a wide variety of martial arts experience, from beginners to veterans. It also included members of the Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff's Department, and law enforcement agencies from out of state.
After a quick warm up, Aizik taught a simple and devastating counter to the standing side headlock. Demonstrating Commando Krav Maga's adaptability, he showed how the same priciples could be used to defeat the same attack after being thrown to the ground. The end results left the attacker with his head pinned to the ground
Aizik then turned his attention to choking attacks. He showed how the same offensive principles could be used to defeat choking attacks from the front, sides and back. He also taught alternative choking defenses for use when the attacker changes directions, chokes with his forearm or needs initial distraction.
The seminar switched to defenses against armed attacks. Aizik introduced the Commando Krav Maga approach to deflecting a knife wielding attacker and getting to safety behind them. He then moved on to defenses against a pistol pressed into the body. He taught a disarming method unique to Commando Krav Maga that can, almost magically, be used to defend against an attacker from the front, sides or back.
In between the instruction and partner practice, Aizik introduced the participants to Command Krav Maga's training drills. These drills are used to simulate the stresses of combat so the trainee can learn how to deal with adrenaline and exhaustion.
The last area of instruction was defending against punching attacks. Aizik showed how the knife defenses introduced at the beginning of the seminar could be adapted for use against punching attacks. He then showed how they could easily lead into a choke (using the attacker's shirt) or a head wrenching takedown.
The seminar closed with the exhausted participants wishing there was time to cover more material. Moni Aizik is a world class instructor. His Commando Krav Maga is a fantastic self defense method. Its genius lies in its simplicity and adaptability.
