Three Time Lucky – Liz

Part 1 (August 2000)

I was an extra in Future Tense. I was in the party scenes and we shot them at this private house. They were not using me for any of the scenes at the beginning and I was stuck waiting around, not knowing what was going on in the house, not knowing if Josh was close by. Some people started to trickle out and I heard a few things, most importantly that Josh was there. You can imagine how eager I was to get in there! So I met up with some of my friends and some other extra and we were chatting on the side of the house. We were standing in the driveway, just maybe 20 feet from the garage, that was part of the house- kinda underneath it. So there we were, just chatting away and I look over to the garage. It was where they had the cast/crew craft service and some of the camera equipment. So I just happened to look over and there he was. Just plain as could be. I remember that I stopped hearing anything anyone was saying and I just focused in on him. I actually lost my ability to speak. I managed to quietly mumble out a "There's Josh." Everyone around me was like, "Yeah, big deal?" They had either already seen or met him so they weren't as struck as I. So then Cherlyn realized that this was the first time I had ever seen him in person, so she just kinda smiled at me and patted my arm and said, "Awww, this is the first time you've seen him, huh?" I was like, "Yep." So I watched him hang out with what I think was some of the crew and someone else... I could see that he was talking to someone sitting down, but I couldn't actually see this person. From the angle I was at, I could tell it was someone wearing flip-flops and jeans and logic told me it was Katie. I was right. So, I was still watching him (he, he) and he was eating some piece of fruit, maybe an apple, and there must have been some bad spot in it cos I see him walk out of the garage and spit in this garbage can. My mouth was just about hanging open at this point- I never imagined I'd see him do something like that! I kinda chuckled to myself and said, "He just spit." Quite a cute moment for me. But anyway, as he was walking to the trash, before he spit, he looked over at us and gave us that puzzled kind of look he has. So adorable. Right after that, I got picked to finally be in a scene, but before I went inside, I HAD to go over to that garbage can to throw something out and as I approached the garage I snuck a closer peak at him

Part 2 (Jan 2001)

So I was there with Cherlyn and another friend of ours that now lives there. This was about mid-January and they were filming "Mind Games". They were not filming in Wilmington during the first part of the week (even though we found them), but later in the week, we found them filming at Pacey and Gretchen's house.  One day, the three of us waited for ELEVEN hours at the house. We stood across the street and only left when they broke for lunch, to get some food ourselves. Throughout the day, some crew came over to talk to us and I think they were interested as to why we were hanging around so long. One of them told us that the cast (Josh, Katie, James) knew we were there. That made us somewhat happy, but they absolutely refused to let us watch any closer. (That part is kinda a side story all on it's own, too). Also, during the day, we would see James (although he was only there part of the day), Katie, and Josh walking around. At one point Josh was talking to the crew, I'm guessing he was telling a story. It was so cute- he was using his hands to gesture and at one point kind of grabbed at his heart like he had been shot. So adorable, the way he acts everything out. While he was telling the story, and since he was in good view of us, we started to wave at him and he waved back- so sweet. But then he promptly returned to his storytelling. Then, it started to get dark, but still we did not leave. At about 6PM one of the crew came over and told us not to leave cos Josh was going to come out and say hello. I was freaking out of course. I was the only one out of the three of us who had never met him, so I just didn't know what to do with myself, so I ended up pacing (he, he) all along the sidewalk. We had to wait about an hour and finally, the crew guy motioned us over. I was so excited!!! So we walked by the trucks, and I was assuming that we were gonna go inside the house, but then I heard a very familiar voice... "So you're the girls with the do-diligence" and I whipped around to find him standing to my left. I felt that I could have died and gone to heaven at that point. He talked first to Cherlyn and Jacki saying he had remembered meeting them before. Then a truck was backing up and some guy yelled out to Josh to move, so we moved over a bit, and then he turned to me. He said, "Now, you've never been here." I said, "Well, actually, I was here before, but I never met you." Then I extended my hand and said, "I'm Liz." He shook my hand and said, "Hi, I'm Josh." I wanted to melt- not only was he touching my hand, but he introduced himself to me! How great is that?! Like I didn't know who he is! But it just shows what a gentleman he is, not to mention that he doesn't just assume everyone knows who he is. Then we got to stand and talk to him for a while. He was really laid back. Just being, Josh. Not Pacey, or Luke, or any other character he has played. I did notice his hair was getting long, but I still thought he was so gorgeous. His eyes stood out the most to me. They're almost indescribable. Light bluish-green. Very mesmerizing. But seriously, he just chatted with us and put us at ease. They only thing I didn't like was the fact that there was a whole bunch of crew around and almost seemed like we were on display and everyone was watching us. (Not that I'm complaining though.) So then, this girl comes up behind him, and who was it? Sorry K/Jers, it was Sasha. She is SO cool and let me tell, you very pretty without makeup. She was just visiting on set. (That's another part of the story I'll tell you later.) So she chatted with us too, but then Josh had to go back to finish the scene. (It's my guess that they were filming that scene where they were eating pizza cos he was wearing the outfit from that scene and it was night time, but I could be wrong.) So as he was headed to the house, I called out to him, "Josh." And he turned around, and I asked him if, when they were done, could I get a picture. He gave me a bit of the quizzical look and then said, "Suuure. But I don't really know the rules around here. You'll have to ask (someone in charge I'm guessing)." This also has to do with why we couldn't watch closer- they were having security problems, so I think he didn't want to say yes for sure in case it wasn't allowed anymore. But I was thinking, Hell, if Josh said sure, no one is moving my butt until I get my pic. So I said, "Okay." Then one of the crew guys asked us to stand off to the side. We waited til they finished- although we couldn't see any filming. Then Katie came out and got into a van, and then Josh bounded out of the house. He saw me and came right over- and immediately put his arm around my back. I of course did not hesitate to respond by putting my arm around him. Cherlyn had my camera and as she was turning it on, I turned my head towards him and warned him that my camera had a double flash. He went, "Okay, so double flash. I shouldn't blink after the first one?" I said, "Right." So then she took the pic. And as soon as she did, I said, "How 'bout one more?" He did his half smile smirk thing like he was expecting it and then he repositioned his arm on my shoulder. (Okay, cos I was definitely melting at this point.) She took the other one (and I'm so glad we did cos it's way better than the first one) and before he let go of me, I turned my head again to him and said, "Thank you so much." and he said, "You're welcome." And then he was gone.
