Correct Answer Most Japanese live in very small spaces in the big cities. They don't have a lot of space for larger animals to run around. The unusual pet that most Japanese children have is a beetle. The stag and rhinoceros beetles are the types that are easiest to raise. Children like to put 2 male beetles together to watch them fight. They feed them beetle jelly and buy decayed wood flakes for the females to lay their eggs. Beetle breeding has become a popular hobby in Japan.
Nobody guessed beetles for their answer, although some students guessed crickets, which also could be correct. The following students guessed crickets: Chelsea B., Michael G., Lauren H., Brian F., Kate S., Chelsea R., Ryan G., all from Mrs. Peiffer's class, and Westin and Garrett H.
Billy H. and Megan M. from Mrs. Hontz' class were close to beetle with their guess of cockroach. Another good answer was the Tamagotchi , a mysterious little creature from outer space that needs lots of tender loving care (guessed by the Hegners.)
