| About the Brookside House |
| The Brookside House is a historic property in Locke Mills, a village in the town of Greenwood, Maine. Formerly the Brookside Inn, this comfortable house sits next to a brook with a waterfall. Year-round activities are nearby at Mt. Abram Family Resort, Sunday River Ski Resort, and the many local ponds. Come stay and enjoy the Brookside House in any season. The oldest part of the Brookside House dates to the 1850's. Several additions and some recent renovations give the Brookside House a comfortable, campy character. In its early days, it was a rooming house with carriage service, serving the nearby railroad station (long ago closed and demolished) and the old local mills (Mr. Locke's Mills). More recently, in the 1980's and 90's the Brookside House was operated as an Inn by the previous owner. LL Bean was born nearby in 1873 (in Greenwood) and in 1912, he started the company that bears his name. LL Bean's parents owned and operated the Mt Abram Hotel. Unfortunately, the Mt Abram hotel burned down long ago. Visit the local Historical Societies in Greenwood and Bethel. Visit LL Bean in Freeport, a little more than a 1 hour drive to the coast.
