| The Bush regime has done more to set back civil and human rights in this country more than any presidency in the past century. We now have secret military tribunals, where people are tried without fair representation, without a jury of their peers, and without constitutionality. Bush has countermanded the constitution at every possible turn, in the name of our safety. Let me tell you that what most of us now fear is not terrorists, but the unchecked power of our government. Freedom is what our great nation is all about, and yet Bush would take us down the path of Stalin, and Hitler. Already we have thousands of Muslims in our Guantanamo concentration camp, who truly my have committed horrible crimes, but we will never know, because not a single one has ever seen a judge, jury, or any form of legal justice in the 2 years they've been held. We give better treatment to cannibals, and child rapists as long as they're American citizens. Bush has violated the first amendment by urging New York to not grant a permit for anti war protestors. and with the patriot acts, and the military tribunals, he has violated the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th amendments. What standards can we hold our government to if we allow the Bush regime to violate 6 of the ten amendments in the bill of rights? If the constitution is not the highest law in the land, then what is? Many people in our nations history have died to protect the rights that have now been taken away. How many will have to die to get them back? As Ben Franklin once said " Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Use the power to the constitution grants you, and remove this petty tyrant from power. Remember, regime change begins at home. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
