| I am a constituent of yours and I write today as a participant in Win Without War's Virtual March. I believe that president Bush is attempting to do something that has never been done before in our nations history.... START A WAR, and not only that, an unjust war. The Iraqi people have already suffered and starved under U.S. sanctions for 11 years. 60% of Iraqi citizens rely on the government for all of their food and water requirements, if we disable their government, millions of people will starve in the first month of combat alone. Additionally, the depleted uranium left in Iraq from our shells after the first gulf war has raised the cancer level 7 to 10 fold, and birth deformities between 4 and 6 fold. Furthermore, the entire military system of Iraq is built alongside the civilian populace, making it nearly impossible to bomb without severe human loss. Saddam Hussein is, of course, a horrible man, but it is the god given right of all people to dethrone their own tyrants, as we once did in our nations distant history. These poor people do not need U.S. occupation, any more than they need the government they have now. As a senator, you should be morally outraged by the way the executive branch has usurped the power of your legislative branch. George Bush does not have the right, or the power to wage this illegitimate war of murder and oppression against the innocent and peaceful people of Iraq, not without the consent of the Senate. READ YOUR CONSTITUTION- only you, the senate have the power to wage war, on behalf of peaceful people everywhere, PLEASE DON'T. Give the inspections a chance, if you feel something else needs to be done, offer support to Iraqi dissidents, and help them overthrow Saddam themselves, and decide on their own post-Saddam government. Is it our great nations destiny to become an imperialist power? It is if we chose this path of war and occupation. Saddam Hussein has had chemical and biological weapons for at least 20 years, and he hasn't been a threat to us until now? It seems too convenient to me. If we attacked every country with weapons of mass destruction, we would have to attack France, England, China, Russia, Israel, India, Pakistan, oh yeah, and lets not forget the nation with the largest stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in the world-US. In closing, please use the power granted to you under our constitution, and stop this war. It can’t happen without your consent, you can't wash this blood off your hands. Help prove the rest of the world wrong about our country and STOP WORLD WAR 3 before it starts. Thank you. |
