Period 3

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think that we can agree on this one. I believe that, at this time and date, the world’s biggest problem.

Terrorism has always been a problem, but as technology advances, terrorism gets worse, and worse. Terrorism in the old days was done by hand or, by using cannons. But now because of technology, it’s as easy as pressing a button or flicking a switch. Different people have different opinions, and to me this is a terrible problem that needs to be stopped. Terrorism is the killing of innocent people dying for no reason, or a reason that they had nothing to do with. With terrorism, hundreds of thousands can die from one terrorist attack. In the last three years, there has been an average of two hundred and seventy terrorist attacks worldwide. In the last year itself, there have been one hundred and ninety attacks. Last year, in Asia alone, there was the highest number of attacks and causality count. There was seventy attacks, in which one hundred fifty nine people were killed and nine hundred fifty one were wounded.

In The United States there has been a terrorist that I don’t think anyone will forget. On September 11, 2001, was one of the worst ever terrorist attacks to strike the U.S.

There were a total of two thousand, nine hundred and ninety six casualties.

These casualties included two thousand nine hundred and forty eight dead, and forty six missing. This is an attack that nobody in the US will ever forget. I feel the pain and sorrow for those family, friends, and loved ones who lost their friend or friends on that day.

I think that another example of terrorism is going on right now, at this very moment. I consider what we are doing to Iraq as terrorism. We invaded their land with no permission, killed their leaded, and Iraqi civilians and America soldiers are dying every day. Again, in 1987, an in-flight bombing from Korean air lines passenger jet killed all 155 people on board.

I really don’t think that all this hatred is necessary, I don’t understand why everyone just can’t get along. There is no easy solution to this horrid problem of terrorism. Maybe if we just went every country for themselves, there would be no problems, but that isn’t possible because every country needs something from elsewhere. I think that every country should sign a peace treaty, stating that they will no strike upon another country, unless there is war.
