EL DORADO

Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old —
This knight so bold —
And o'er his heart a shadow

Fell, as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow —

'Shadow,' said he,
'Where can it be —
This land of Eldorado?'

'Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,'

The shade replied, —
'If you seek for Eldorado!

Diction – In the beginning, the diction is that this bold knight it going to attempt to reach Eldorado and the author makes it seem that if he can’t reach it, then no one can. In the middle of the story, the bold knight is getting too old and wearisome and he is eventually going to die. At the end of the story, the knight is going to die no matter how bad he wants to get to Eldorado, his time has come to die.

1. This emphasizes a narrative poem because it shows the authors thoughts and emotions, and the poem is longer than most poems and actually tells a story. It also meets the criteria by it has more than only one character. The lines of the poem is also created into stanzas.
