apartheid-
It is a policy of strict racial separation in South Africa. Apartheid isn’t very old, it recently was abolished in 1989.

civil disobedience- It is the refusal to obey unjust laws. An American philosopher of the 1800’s believed this.

Diego Rivera- He was a muralist on the 1920’s and 1930’s. He painted with bold new style that drew on Mexican folk art.

Hirohito- He reigned from 1926 to 1989. During his time there was great success in Japan, and also appalling tragedies.

Jiang Jieshi- he took over the Guomindang. In 1926 he began to march into northern China in order to retrieve Beijing.

Muhammad Ali Jinrah- He first represented Muslin interests. He then threw his support behind the idea for a separate state for Muslims.

Nationalization- This is the take over of property. This is usually taken by the government.

Pancho Villa- He killed 17 Americans in New Mexico. This made the Americans stir up violent anti-Yankee sentiment.

Cause of the 1910 Mexico Revolution- there was discontent with the peasants. The middle class liberals who liked the idea of democracy opposed Diaz dictatorship.

Pan-Africanism- It emphasized the unity of African people. Not only in Africa, but all over the world.

Mandate System (M. East)- Europeans set up the mandates. The Arabs were not happy with the land that was given to them. They felt betrayed my the West.

Great Salt March- People under the leadership of Ghandi people took a journey to the sea. This was because they were being charged to much for salt.

May Fourth Movement- Students protested erupted in Beijing. They set of a cultural and intellectual movement.

Effect of Great Depression in Japan- The great depression created the Japanese to expand. They also took over China.

general strike- Many of the strikes were by workers. This is because of the different industries of the time.

stream of consciousness- It is a literary technique. It probes a character’s random thoughts and feelings .

flapper- It was a rebellious young woman. They usually were found in the United States and Europe during the 1920’s.

concentration camp- It was a detention center for Jewish people. Millions of people died in them.

Leon Blum- under his government he tried to solve labor problems. And he passed social legislation.

Marie Curie- a French scientist that was working with radioactivity. She was one of the people that discovered what was in radioactivity.

Franklin D. Roosevelt- Roosevelt resisted demands by some Americans to intervene. The Good Neighbor Policy survived until 1945 when global tensions led the United States to intervene one again.

Virginia Woolf- She was a British novelist. She used stream of consciousness to explore hidden thoughts.

Albert Einstein- he advanced his theories of reality. He argued space and time measurements are not absolutes.

James Joyce-
He was an Irish novelist. He wrote Finnegan’s Wake.

Pablo Picasso- He was a painter in Spain. He painted picture used obscure objects.

Joseph Pilsudski- he was dictator of Poland in 1926. He was one of the right-wing dictators to emerge in eastern Europe.

Frank Lloyd Wright- He was an American Architect. He reflected the Bauhaus belief that the function of a building should determine its form.

Kellog-Briand Pact- it outlawed war. It was promising to " renounce war as an instrument of national policy.

Fascism- This party rejected the Enlightenment emphasis. To them democracy led to greed, corruption, and weakness.

Adolph Hitler- He was the head of the NAZI party. He wanted to exterminate all Jews. He believes that the Jewish people caused all the problems in Germany.

totalitarian rule- It was a single-party dictatorship that had control over the economy. It had spies and state terrorism, strict censorship and unquestioning obedience to a single ruler. They also used the schools and media to control the people.

Mein Kampf- This was the book that Hitler wrote when he was in jail. It shows all of his hated and ideas for the Jewish people. It was known as the "Holy Book" to the NAZI party.

campaign against the Jews- When Hitler was in power he made the Jews stand out. He would take away their rights, he then made them wear a star on all of their clothing. This was to make all the people not like them, and to make them feel like they were not part of anything.

Great Depression- It hit Germany in 1924. Hitler was the one who said that he would change all of the problems of the great depression.

Mussolini- he organized veterans and other discontent Italians into the fascist party. He promised to end all corruption.

Weimar Republic- It was created in 1919 after WWI. It set up a parliamentary type of Government.

Kristallnacht- this was also known as the night of broken glass. This is the night that all the Jews were sent to concentration camps.

List causes of Great Depression- Some of the reasons that the Great depression hit was because of economic disaster, people were not willing to work, the government was loosing control, and the mark on money was almost worthless.
