1. A. Socrates- Was a philosopher and he did not write any books. Liked to go to the marketplace and debate issues with others.
B. Aristotle- He was Plato’s most famous student. He analyzed the different types of government and thought that monarchies were the best.
C. Parthenon- The large building that housed the statue of Athena.
D. Aeschylus- He was one of the greatest playwrights for tragedies.
E. Sophocles- One of the greatest tragedy playwrights.
F. Euripides- Wrote tragedies and wrote about war.
G. Herodotus- was a great historian and set many examples for our modern day historians and students.
H. Thucydides- He wrote about the Peloponnesian war.

2. A. Rhetoric- the art of skillful speaking.
B. Tragedy- plays that told of human suffering that usually ended in disaster.
C. Comedies- humorous plays that mocked people of customs.

3. The Greek artists made everyone in the perfect state of grace and beauty.

4. A. Greek plays were performed by actors that wore elaborate costumes and masks.
B. The themes that the playwrights explored were tragedies, comedies and dramas.

5. A. Plato rejected democracy as a government because it condemned Socrates.
B. His ideal form of government was a society of three classes:
i) Workers to produce the necessities of life.
ii) Soldiers to protect.
iii) Philosophers to rule.
