| The Magna Carta | ||||||
| The Magna Carta was one of the most important documents for the English people of the time. The Magna Carta was issued by King John in 1215. The document was originally created because the Pope and King John disagreed about the power and rights of the king. King John wanted to limit the power of the king with the Magna Carta, and put some restrictions on what he could do. Over time the Manga Carta has been revised and renewed, even today. The Magna Carta was a main influence to our founding fathers, when they wrote out our U.S Constitution, and Bill of Rights. When the King John created the Magna Carta he cleary wrote in Clause 1 that the Magna Carta garunteed the freedom of the English Church from the King. King John gave all the power to the people and took it out of the hands of the king, becuase the English people were not happy with him. The people were angry because he was constantly asking them for more money, and the only way for him to get more money was to raise the people's taxes. This document was basically for the people, and it was putting more power in the hands of them, and give the king less and less power. All this document basically did was make the people happier, because it decreased the taxes, and gave them more power over their politics.
The Magna Carta was just created to please the people. The document obviously gives the people more power over what they do in politics. It gives them alot more say in what goes on in the government. Instead of the king making all the desicions, the people could actually speak out about what they wanted. They king's after King John were not so fortunate. Because of the Magna Carta, they were not as powerful as King John was, because they didn't have as much freedom over their city/region. I am thankful for the Magna Carta because our government is formed around it, because our founding fathers used it as a reference. Basicaly, the limited power of the kings, gave the people more freedom and rights. |
