| They awoke when someone walked into the room. Justin and Joey stood up immediately. They didn't recognize the man in front of them, it was apparent from his clothes that he was not a doctor. "Are you lost?" Justin offered to the man who was staring at Tiffany but not saying anything. "No, sorry I am Jim Robinson." He shook thier hands as they introduced themselves then Lucy and Tiffany, who were still asleep. "Tiffany? Is she okay?" He pointed to her as Lucy slowly started to wake. "Yeah she should be." The confusion in Justin's voice rose a little with every word as Lucy stood to meet them. "Who are you?" Joey was as polite as possible considering there was a strange man asking about his hospitalized sister. "I am Jim Robinson. You know that though. I am the one that hit her. I fell asleep at the wheel. I am so sorry." Joey grabbed Justin as he lunged toward him, then Lucy grabbed Joey as he lunged toward him. "Sorry about them, they were just very worried about her. Have a seat?" She said as she sat Justin and Joey in thier seats, then pulled a chair in front of thiers. The only way around her was over Tiffany and she knew they wouldn't do that. "Tell us what happened. Tiffany doesn't remember." Thick sarcasm was apparent in Joey's voice. "I had been driving all night. I fell asleep and woke up when I hit her. I got out of the truck and ran to her door. I couldn't get it open but her window was broken. I saw how hurt she was and ran back to my truck to call for help. I sat with her until the ambulance got there. Right before she was put in the ambulance she asked me to call Justin. I tried to find the number in her cell phone, but it wasn't in the phone book." He pulled her cell phone from his pocket and handed it to Lucy. "I wanted to give this back and express my sorrow for the accident." He lowered his head. "Is she going to be okay?" "She'll be fine. She was awake last night. You can stay to talk to her when she wakes up if you'd like." Lucy offered as she put a hand up to stiffle Joey's objections. "How come you don't have a scratch on you?" Justin thought it was quite suspicious and had to ask. "I was in a truck." "What kind of truck?" "An eighteen wheeler." "Oh no." Joey said as his head fell into his hands causing Lucy to turn to console him. "She's not going to make it. My parents, baby, she won't make it. All over agian, it's happening agian." Lucy kneeled in front of him, hoping Justin would stay in his seat. "No baby she was up last night. She's fine. Don't say that." Justin rose from his seat and started for the door, brushing past Lucy. "Where are you going?" "I gotta get out of here. Look at my baby. She's hurt and we don't know when she will be better." As if on cue she opened her eyes. "Baby, come here." Once he was at her side, she looked into his eyes. "I'm fine baby, calm down. I'll be home in no time." He kissed her hand and looked into her eyes. "He was in an eighteen wheeler, baby." It was all he could say. "And he wants to talk to you, so we will give you some privacy." Lucy said grabbing Joey and Justin's hands and leading them to the hallway. "I am so sorry." Jim stood and walked to her bedside. "I'm fine." "I know but you shouldn't even be here. You should be out shopping or working or something." "Shopping? No I own a daycare actually. I should be there but you gave me a mini vacation." She said trying to make him feel better. "You like children?" "Yeah I love them." "You have any?" "No I just borrow other peoples." She smiled up at him, trying to comfort him, certain her brother and boyfriend had done enough to make him feel bad. "I tried to call Justin. His number wasn't in your cell." "Thank you, at least you tried." "It was the least I could do." "No the least you could have done was leave me there without help. I really appreciate what you did for me." "Put her down in her bed." Joey ordered Justin as he handed Tiffany to him. "I could have walked." She looked at Justin as he started up the stairs. "No you couldn't have. You can barely hold your own head up." "That's not true. I feel fine. I'll be at work day after tomorrow." She called to Lucy who was already following Joey out the door. "No you will not. I will tie you down to this bed if I have to." "My Civics gone. Was that the car I was in?" "Yeah the insurance company is getting you a new one right now. Just the way you had it." "Call them and tell them that is not necessary. I will get one myself." "I will not, I am going to get you some extra pillows. Stay in bed." He laid her down and pulled the covers over her. "Yes, sir." He walked out of the room and was back in under a minute, ready to prop her up with pillows. "Thank you. You are so good to me." She tugged at his shirt to quide him to her lips for a quick kiss. "Your welcome. I love you so much, angel. You gave me a good scare back there." He laid down and rested his head in her lap, then she ran her fingers through his hair. "Thank you for staying at the hospital with me. You wanna take a nap? I know that chair couldn't have been very comfortable." "What do you think Joey and Lucy are doing? Let's nap baby." He pulled the covers over himself and kissed her. He reached over to find her gone. He walked into the bathroom and the closet, then down the stairs. "Tiffany? Where are you angel?" "In here." She called from the library, where she was busy on the computer. "What are you doing, angel?" "Working on the daycare's website." "Why? Angel, you should be in bed, resting." |
