| "Of course." She lowered her eyes, but not before he noticed she was lieing. "He must have been one hell of a guy." Justin tried to make her think he hadn't noticed. "Yeah, I have a problem with comparing all the men I meet with him. I even did it to you." "How'd I do?" "Pretty good. I mean it really surprised me but I think.." She decided not to finish. How could she tell him he had surpased the man she was going to marry? How could he tell him that Jacob had cheated on her countless times and she had put up with it? She couldn't tell him just like she couldn't tell his parents that he had ignored her and made her feel useless. She had decided a long time ago that remembering him positively would be the best for everyone. "Go on." He pushed. "You were almost there." He could hear the hesitation in her voice, was she exaggerating to make him look better or to make Jacob look better? "So what will your Mom think about you not visiting?" He changed the subject. "Oh she won't care, she was just up here last month. She knows I have a hard time around his parents, that I don't know how to act." She pulled the phone to eye level and began dialing. "Hello? Hey it's me, yeah I won't be able to make it, I don't feel good, I will, Tell Jacob and Daniel I love them and I miss them. Ok, bye bye." Justin knew she wasn't over Jacob at that moment. "Are you okay?" He tried to bring it up lightly when she had hung up. "Yeah, why?" "You just told his mother to tell him you loved him." He tried to chuckle. "No I told her to tell her husband I love him. Jacob was named after his father." She smiled as her eyes twinkled. "Oh that explains it." He sighed as quietly as he could. "Well it's dark now, what's next?" "How about girl talk and ice cream?" She stood and walked into the kitchen. "Girl talk? I don't think I can do that." She pulled two bowls out of the cabinet. "I've had some of my best girl talks with guys." "OK, any new men in your life?" He mocked a woman's voice. "Yeah, he's kinda wierd, I think he may be mentally unstable." She creased her eyebrows at him. "You know you are just picky." He kept the voice. "Not picky, selective." She giggled as he threw his hands in the air. "Ok really, what did you want to talk about?" "Why do I always have to talk? How about you, any new women?" She handed him a bowl of ice cream as she joined him. "I wish." "The old ones getting boring?" She mocked simpathy before pushing a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. "Yeah kinda, I mean you would think having a million girls throwing themselves at you would be great, But never getting to know someone one on one. Never knowing if they are real, it all makes you untrusting. I know what you are thinking, poor pop star. And I want you to know, there is nothing I would rather do with my life. There are just bad points, too." "I understand, there are bad points to everything. You just have to be willing to take the bad with the good." She ran a finger along the rim of her bowl. "Like with people, too?" He read her eyes, he knew she knew he was talking about Jacob. "Yeah with people, too. Everybody has thier bad points, even me." She let a smile take her lips. "Like what?" He tried to act surprised. "I am a clean freak, I am too nice, I let people walk all over me. I hardly ever finish a project without starting another. I am a pack rat. I have a problem trusting people. The list goes on and on." She met his gaze. "Those are bad things?" He ran his tongue along his lips in anticipation. "They were for Jacob, he was messy. He hated having all the unfinished projects around the house. I guess it just depends what you look for." She took another spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. "What were Jacob's bad points?" She bit her inner lip and Justin thought she wouldn't answer. "He was messy, he was addicted to video games, and he was away too much." She kept it broad and truthful. He had been away, she just didn't mention the girls he was with. And she didn't mention that he played the game so much he ignored her. "Doesn't sound too bad." The phone began to ring in the middle of his sentence but she politely waited for him to finish before picking it up. "Hello? Oh hi, yeah I am sick, no that won't be neccassary, ok if you want to, talk to you tomorrow, bye bye." She set the phone on the table. "Bad news?" He read her face. "Well kinda, Justin is coming 'to take care of me'." "When?" "As soon as possible." "That's nice of him." He knew this man wanted her, what friend would fly across the country to take care of someone with the flu? "I guess, I just," she paused, "need some sleep." "Ok, I can take a hint. I'll be back in the morning to check on you." He kissed her forehead before depositing his bowl in the sink. "See you tomorrow." She called as he left the room. She made her way to bed and had a restless night sleep. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey sweetie, wake up." Justin shook her lightly. "Good morning. What are you doing here?" She rubbed her eyes. "Checking up on you." He pushed the thermometer into her mouth. Timed it then withdrew it. "How is it?" She sat up, beginning to wake. "Almost completely gone." He walked into her bathroom and got her another capfull of medicine. "Thanks." She put the cap to her mouth and swallowed. "Get ready, we are going somewhere." He took the cap from her. "Ok, lemme get a shower, make yourself at home." He walked downstairs and sat on the couch to watch TV until she was ready. Thirty minutes later she walked into the room wearing a grey skirt and black top. "You look great." He stood as she walked toward him. "Thanks, I wanted to look proffessional, think I do?" She twirled once to let him get a look at her. "Yeah, very." He pulled at one of her curls playfully. "So where to?" She playfully slapped his hand away from her hair. "The Aquariam. If that's ok?" "Yeah, lemme grab my stuff." She grabbed her purse. |
