~In Honor Of Justin ~

On June the 22nd Harlan County lost one of its finest young people. Justin Shackleford was killed in a tragic automobile accident on US 119 while returning from the University of Kentucky where he was participating in a summer internship program for students who excelled in academics and were interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.
Justin was an honor student at Harlan Independent School and was involved Beta Club, Bible Club, and the Gifted and Talented Program. He was a lineman on the football team and participated in the band in the off seasons.
His parents Donna and Dickey Shackleford of Evarts, and a brother Chris Shackleford and wife Kim survive Justin.
The Justin Shackleford Scholarship Fund is being developed as a perpetual tribute to this young man and will provide a better future for deserving young people from Harlan County.
The Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior each year. The recipient of the scholarship will be a person who excels in academics, who has displayed a passion for learning, a respect for family and friends, and a desire to better our community. These were qualities that defined Justin Shackleford.
