The
Los Angeles-based six-piece Flogging Molly is a clash of
traditional Irish folk music and punk rock. The band met
each other at Molly Malones, a pub on Fairfax Blvd. in Los
Angeles back in 1998, releasing their first album, ‘Swagger’
in 1999.
Dublin
native Dave King formed the band with fiddle player
Bridget Regan, guitarist Dennis Casey, accordion player Matt
Hensley, bassist Nathen Maxwell, drummer George Schwindt,
and mandolinist Bob Schmidt. Their rowdy Irish folk sound
has been compared to the likes of other bands such as the
Pogues and Dubliners, but the raucous septet opted for their
own brashness of Guiness soaked Irish punk.
Currently the band is touring and enjoying the success of
their second album, “Drunken Lullabies”. |
