In July 1947, something happened near Roswell, New Mexico. An unknown object came down into a nearby farmers field and the events that followed became known as the Roswell incident.
Initially the press issued a press release which stated a flying saucer had crashed. Almost instantlt after this release, the military said it was a "weather balloon." Whatever the case, the Roswell incident became one of the most famous alien encounters in history.
