| Barry Allen Beach
The killing in which Barry Allen Beach was sentenced to life in prison with out the possibility of parole occurred 26 years ago in Poplar, Mt, on the Ft. Peck Reservation. The victim was an 18 year old young woman who had recently graduated two weeks prior from high school in Poplar. On the night of Kims death she had earlier on gone to the movies with her boyfriend, Greg Norgaard, after the movies, Greg dropped Kim off at home and he headed to the Legion Club. Pam Nees, Kims sister told investigators that Kim had been home for about 15 minutes when she took the keys to the pickup and left. Kim was seen by several people that night, many who saw her sitting alone at the Exxon station just across the street from the school. Some kids who knew Kim as friends or who just knew who she was saw her driving around as well, she was also seen by several people, driving west on Hwy 2 at about 1am, Kim was alone. This is only a few blocks from where the turn off to the river bottom field where the murder took place. At around 6:45 am two tribal police officers, Calvin Red Thunder and Alfred Lizott, while on patrol noticed that the pickup they had seen earlier in the park was still down there, so they decided to drive down to the area and check it out. As they pulled up to the drivers side door of the pickup, everything looked normal. They got out of their vehicle and walked up to the drivers side of the pickup and looked in, it was splattered with blood, there were gouge marks in the ceiling and on the steering wheel, blood and hair were in the gouge marks. They then walked around the front of the vehicle and they noticed underneath the passenger side door folded neatly a white sweater with a red purse sitting on top of it. As they looked a little further (about 9 feet away) there was a huge puddle of blood, when they approached the puddle of blood they noticed what appeared to be a drag trail with blood and hair clump in it, there were also footprints in and along the drag trail. They followed the drag trail to the embankment and looked down towards the river and that is when they saw the body of Kimberly Ann Nees, floating face up in about 2 feet of water, her body was fully clothed, and there was nothing near or around her body. They then knew that they needed to call for help. They called the Poplar City Police, Tribal Police, Roosevelt County Sheriffs Department and the FBI, due to the fact this was on the reservation. |
