IS
WILIAM REHNQUIST AN “EXCELLENT’’ ROLE MODEL FOR STUDENTS TO FOLLOW?
n
The
Shorewood School District evidently thinks so, & plans to give him its
first “Award of Excellence” on Friday,
September 14, 2001
-
Rehnquist
not only helped stop the counting of votes in the November 2000 election,
without showing any concern for the many African-American and other voters who
were illegally not allowed to vote,
-
He
also fought against a public accommodation law outlawing racial discrimination
in Phoenix, and wrote that the U.S. Supreme Court should re-affirm the
constitutionality of official racial segregation – a view unanimously rejected
by the Court in 1954. He is anti-labor & he decried minimum wage and
maximum hour laws as denying employer “freedom.”
PLEASE:
-
CALL
the Shorewood School District & board members and ask that civil
rights & labor supporters be given equal time & access, before
Rehnquist speaks to the Shorewood High School students, so that the students
can decide for themselves if his is an “excellent” example to follow. The
District tel. is 963-6911,
fax is 961-2950.
