It has now been over a year since the incident on Brame Drive took place leaving two families whirling with sadness. Its now unfortunate to inform the world of the passing of Ms. McKeown. She passed away in January of 2003. We all had our fingers crossed listening only to hear that some days she was improving with health and some days her health was failing her. Rumor has it that a staff infection was the evil of which took her life at such an early age. Its also regretful to know that my sister, Mrs. Morris, is still in the Craven County Confinement Center being held under the threat of life in prison. Not one person in their right mind would be able to understand why someone could spend life in prison or worse for a crime of which seemed impossible to prevent. I must support my sisters feelings of helplessness on that fateful day when Ms. McKeown made a misguided decision to step foot in my sisters home even after warnings of harm were given. Over the course of this past year I have sent out letters to certain public officials and Senators, only to find that these people set upon a high seat to represent the people have no desire to help Melissa. All the responses I received in return were responses that explained no one would be interested in hearing what I had to say except for Melissas lawyer. Of course I say that out of context but how else should I interpret your response when you inform me you cant do anything to help the lack of justice going on in our government. Am I correct in my interpretation? Needless to say my sisters outrageous and unfair bond was revoked after Ms. McKeowns passing. Now with a new lawyer, Rudolph Ashton, we seem to be working towards a trial of which no date is set yet.
