Welcome to the Mark Hunter Fan Club

Many of you may be asking, "Why Mark Hunter?" Especially when there are Tim Booths and Saul Davies out there in the world of James. That is exactly why Mark Hunter. James work best as an organism, as a team of six (or is it seven again now Kulas?) men writing breathtaking music. When it all comes out in the mix and into the press this is often forgotten. Yet if you listen to the songs, each individual instrument, each noise, each silence and each beat is carefully chosen and carefully crafted for maximum affect. I have often found, however, that when rearranged, live elements which are hidden or mixed low on the records, stand out as the most solid parts of songs. And an astounding percentage of the seeming new parts belong to Mark.
I give you "Johnny Yen" from Woodstock, c. 1994, (found on the Sounds and Moods bootleg and the pianos on this one track make it worth the money), or the remixed version of "Lose Control" that was played on the recent UK tour. Go back and listen to "Lost a Friend," and try and pick out the organ from the background, it's the first thing I noticed and it gives me chills. And can ANYONE forget the first time they heard the mouth organ on "Out To Get You"? Tim himself once stated,"...you never hear what he plays, ever, until you get to the studio. At first it used to really bug us, but now no one cares, because it's always bloody good." (Volume eight, page 104, 1993)
To top it all off, Mark plays several instruments and has done some lovely remixes (anything labeled "Diceman Mix" is his). But, as the least outspoken and never quoted member of the band, he often gets shoved into the back of people's minds and the back of the stage. So we're creating this special tribute to him to recognize how bloody brilliant he is, and to jarr James fans into remembering that there's more to the band than the singer (even if the singer is Tim Booth).
