| CHAPTER 9
Alexis Davis was sitting alone at a table at the Metro Court Restaurant. The table was covered with files, the paperwork which once contained them were scattered all over the place. She had more cases in front of her then she could handle in a month let alone a week. Diane entered the Metro Court and cunningly walked over to her table and sat down. She sat there almost fifteen minutes running her mouth and looking through some of the files before she realized that Alexis didn�t hear a word she said. She didn�t even think she knew she had sat down. So she took the file from her hand and threw it down on the table. Diane knew by the absentee look on Alexis�s face that it was worse than she thought. Something or someone had Alexis scared to death. Her jaw was locked in place, her face was extremely pale and she was in a very deep trance. �Marry me?� �What did you just say?� �Marry me?� �Who?� �You.� �What?� �Marry me?� �Alexis, Alexis.� Diane sung over and over again while she waved her hand in front of her face. �Have you lost your mind?� �Not at all!� Sonny replied with his dimples flashing. �We can�t get married.� �Why not?� A confused Sonny asked. Alexis didn�t know what to say so she said the first thing that came to her mind and then regretted saying it as soon as she did. �Because you don�t even have a ring!� Quickly she covered her mouth and slid out of bed. �Where are you going?� �To work.� Alexis replied breathless as she rummaged through her dresser draws dropping clothes all over the place. Sonny looked over at the clock. �Alexis sweetie it�s three o�clock in the morning!� She never looked back at him as she walked around the room aimlessly. Clothes still being tossed across it as she grabbed what she hope matched and walked towards the bathroom. �I � I� I know what time of morning it is.� She spit out the best she could considering she was finding it extremely hard to breath. � I have a very early case and I have hours of work yet to do.� And with that she slammed the bathroom door. �Alexis honey are you okay?� Diane asked as a waitress walked by and pleaded with her to get them some water right away. Alexis locked the bathroom door. She scurried around the room with her eyes looking for something, anything to barricade the door with. She didn�t want him in there, she couldn�t have him in there. If she let him in there then she might say something stupid like yes to his impromptu marriage proposal. And Lord knows that�s the last thing she wanted to say. Finally when she realized she couldn�t find anything to block the door with she dropped her clothes on the floor and hurried into the shower. She turned the water on and somewhat caught her breath as the ice cold water pounded down on her. Sonny really had done it this time. She said to herself as the ice cold water started turning her skin blue. He�s lost his mind and that�s all there is to it. The man I know would never just ask me to marry him like that�. He knows how I feel about marriage � he knows that it scares me to death� Her breathing got more shallow; her heartbeat grew louder. Her knees could no longer hold her weight. Slowly she dropped herself onto the floor. She just sat there for what seemed like ever with the icy water surrounding her body and clouding her judgment. �Alexis, Alexis you need to come back from where ever you are right now!� A panicked Diane yelled at her as she stood in front of her face holding her hands tight. �You need to breathe� you need to take a breath and breathe!� To Diane�s delight Alexis took a breath and looked up at her. �Why did he do this to me? How could he do this to me?� Alexis finally spoke. Diane took a breath as well as the color slowly came back into Alexis�s face. �Girlfriend don�t you ever scare me like that again.� Alexis looked at her like she had lost her mind. Sonny asked her to marry her and yet Diane�s scared? Alexis shook her head and blew off what her best friend just said. �Can you believe the gall of that man? The nerve? The audacity? I mean really who does he think he is?� Diane just took her seat across the table from Alexis and shook her head in acknowledgement of her words. She didn�t have a clue as to what she was talking about. However knowing it was a man who did this to her, she was probably right, the gall of that man. �I would just really like to know what he was thinking?� Alexis continued to speak at the speed of a hundred miles an hour. �What made him ask such a question?� She looked Diane straight in the eyes. �Did he actually expect me to say yes? To say yes to such a ridicules idea? Is he really that arrogant? Well of course he�s that arrogant, he is after all Sonny Corinthos!� With the mention of his name Diane�s eyes lit up. Wow she thought to herself what on earth did that man ask her, to get her this close to going over the edge. This close to completely hyperventilating and ending up in the hospital. �And Sonny Corinthos always gets what Sonny Corinthos wants. Even if it�s just what he wants at the moment� because lord knows once Sonny gets what he wants he no longer wants it� he wants something else.� Alexis grabbed Diane�s hands cause her to jump. �And what Sonny Corinthos wants is Carly Corinthos.� �Jacks.� Diane corrected as Alexis gave her the evil eye. �And he always will want her no matter how much he protest that fact. Sonny Corinthos is and always will be in love with Carly Corinthos, and she�s in love with him, end of story.� Alexis thinks twice about her last statement and then continues talking. �Okay so maybe it isn�t love �. but really what�s the difference? �. The difference is there is no difference.� She throws her hands up into the air. �Love, lust, desire, sick sense of twisted wanting of each other.� �It�s all just a sick game�. A sick game of cat and mouse with want ever woman� or man as the cast may be� gets in the middle�. I know better� I�ve been down this road before� okay well maybe not this road but a road really close to it and heck it I played my cards differently and didn�t help push him out of my life and allow my ex fianc�e to claim to be the father of my unborn daughter � then maybe just maybe this would have happened back then�.� Alexis takes a really deep breath. �Not that I would have wanted him to ask me back then because � well we both know that I wouldn�t be this calm� that I would have totally lost it�.� �Alexis?� Diane yelled cutting her off �How about if you fill me in with the beginning of the story? What did Sonny ask of you.� Alexis moved closer to her and lowered her voice. �That arrogant little parasite had the nerve, the audacity �� to ask me to marry him!� Diane was so shocked she was actually at a loss for words. Her jaw fell open and she just sat there, dumbfound and confused. When did things between her best friend and her client go from former lovers to a marriage proposal? �Will you please say something?� Say something? Diane asked herself. Her new best friend just told her a mobster who she didn�t even know she was sleeping with asked her to marry him and she wants� her to say something. What the heck is there to say? �Just shoot me now?� Alexis said as she looked over Diane�s left shoulder. Quickly picking up the menu and throwing it in front of her face as she slid down into the chair. Diane looked back and saw the arrogant but dashing Sonny himself step off the elevator and walk towards them. She jumped up to block his path but he just pushed her aside. �I�m a man who has a tendency to get what I want.� Sonny stated firmly as he knocked over the menu and helped Alexis back into her original seating position. �You�re the one who was gone when I got out of the shower Mr. Corinthos.� Alexis stated firmly and in complete control. �Because you my dear lady told me I didn�t have something I needed. So I went out and rectified the situation.� �Rectified the situation.� Alexis laughed trying to get him off the subject she knew he was about to approach upon. �You really are spending way too much time with me you know.� Sonny smirked a bit at her comment as he got down on one knee. Diane covered her mouth with her hand as Alexis looked like she was about to pass out. �Sonny please don�t.� Alexis pleaded. �Not here not now.� Her eyes scanned the room and it seemed like everybody she knew was in that restaurant at that very moment. Jax and Carly were sitting at a corner table with what looked like a few staff members. Nikolas was having lunch with a couple of the nurse from the hospital. Lucky and Sam were sitting at a table with Elizabeth of all people and Robin and Patrick had just walked into the room and were heading towards the bar. The only person missing from this nightmare, she thought to herself, was her other ex-husband Ric. �Alexis Davis I love you with all my heart and soul.� Sonny said as he reached into his inner suit pocket and pulled out a small jewelry box. �And I would love it if you would do me the honor of becoming my wife?� �What the hell?� Jax yelled as he stood up �He didn�t just ask her what I think he did, did he?� Carly asked as the room fell deafly quiet. �I didn�t know the two of them were serious about each other!� Lucky exclaimed as he leaned in towards Sam. �My mother wouldn�t be crazy enough to say yes, would she?� Sam asked as she looked back and forth between Liz and Lucky who were just as clueless as she was. �Who the hell does he think he is?� Nikolas asked as he stood up and flung his chair back. �Looks like this is the place to be.� Patrick laughed as Robin gave him the evil eye. �Nikolas don�t!� Alexis yelled as his hand fell upon Sonny�s shoulder. Sonny looked at his shoulder for a second but never got off his knees as he looked back at Alexis. �I believe there�s an offer on the table councilor. One that apparently everybody in this room would like to know the answer to.� Max walked across the room and grabbed Nikolas by the throat. Alexis quickly jumped to her feet. �Sonny!� Sonny nodded and Max released his grip. Alexis leaned into Sonny and simply asked him what the hell he was doing. Sonny flashed his undeniable dimples which always made Alexis�s heart melt. �I�m waiting for an answer to my question ����. Would you like me to repeat it?� �No!� Alexis stated firmly. �No you won�t marry me? Or no you don�t want me to repeat it?� Sonny asked toying with her. �Can we please take this conversation someplace else.� Alexis asked as Jax and Carly approached them. Sonny shook his head no which infuriated Alexis. �I know you better then you think I do Alexis. I know if we leave here right now without you answering my question you�ll double talk your way out of ever answering me and I�ll be left wondering. So therefore I�m going to ask you once more, and I�d really love an answer. Alexis Davis will you marry me?� �You�re incorrigible.� �And you still haven�t given me an answer.� Sonny gleamed �Which should tell you something.� Carly stated in utter disgust. Alexis�s ex husband Ric walked into the room and walked over to the bar. He tapped Dr. Robin Scorpio on the shoulder and asked her what was up. Once Robin clued him in he slowly walked out of the room. He didn�t have the heart to sit there and wait for her answer. She knew Alexis always loved Sonny and that he always loved her but he never thought he�d see this day come. �Alexis why don�t you let me take you home?� Jax asked as he held his hand out to her. Sonny smacked Jax�s hand down and turned his attention towards him. �YES, I�ll marry you!� Alexis yelled out as she step between the two men. �Did you just say yes?� Sonny and Jax asked in unison. Alexis placed both her hands on the side of Sonny�s face. She looked him deep in the eyes and then pulled his lips to hers. Just before they made full contact with each other�s she simply said �Yes I�ll marry you.� Sonny lifted her off her feet as his mouth over took hers. The room seemed even more quiet then before as they continued to kiss. Nikolas stormed out of the room followed closely by Carly who mumbled something along the lines of �killing that woman one of these days.� Robin and Patrick who were now sitting with Lucky, Liz and Sam click their glasses together as they tossed the newly engaged couple. Sam wasn�t too thrilled with the idea of her mother marrying a man whom she once had an affair with. However she could tell by the excitement on her face that she was happy. And that was something that she knew her mother was way overdue for. �I hate to break this up guys but maybe now would be a good time to make a graceful exit.� Diane stated as the kiss grew deeper and more passionate. �I have a room upstairs why don�t you take my key.� She then added as she slipped it in Sonny�s pocket. Alexis broke the kiss and looked over at Diane giving her that we�ll talk about this room thing later look. �Shall we my?� Sonny asked as he held his hand out inviting her to lead the way. �Sonny Corinthos.� Mac said walking up to him and Alexis. �You have the right to remain silent.� �Mac what is this all about?� Alexis asked as the officer placed the handcuffs on him and continued to read Sonny his rights. �Sonny here is being charged with Murder in the first degree!� |
