CHAPTER 10

Alexis followed Mac, Sonny and the other officers downtown. Mac gave Alexis a hard time about going into the interrogation room with Sonny but she clearly informed him that she was still the DA of record and until further notice she would be taking on Sonny�s case. Mac told her that it was her job she was putting in jeopardy so to each it�s own. Alexis demanded he handed over the evidence they had on Sonny before she went into the room but he told her to take it up with the mayor.

Alexis tried to compose herself a little before she stepped into the interrogation room. She didn�t want Sonny to see how upset and frustrated she was.

Sonny smiled brightly when she entered the room. He knew instantly that things were going to be okay because Alexis Davis was the smartest lawyer he ever meet. He asked her what they had on him as she sat down.

She took a deep breath and explained to him that Mac wouldn�t give her his file and when she leaves here she�s going to see the mayor himself. Sonny looked a little concerned but she reassured him the best that she could that everything would be alright and she would get him out of here as soon as possible.

An officer came into the room and told Ms. Davis that he was told to take the prisoner down to booking and put him in a holding cell. Alexis immediately pulled rank and told the officer to find something else to do that Mr. Corinthos wasn�t going anywhere at the moment. The officer complied and left the room. This gave Sonny and Alexis a few more moments alone. They both made sure they told the other how much they loved and trusted each other. Alexis then gave Sonny a kiss goodbye and told him not to worry about a thing she�d have him out in no time.

Alexis went to the Mayor�s office but couldn�t find him anywhere. So she decided to go back to her office and make a few phone calls. She was shocked to see him sitting at her desk waiting for her.

�Mr. Mayor.� She started to say when he stood up and stated his case. He informed her there was no way possible for her to get anywhere near this case. That it would be in her best interest to hand the case over to one of the assistant DA�s. When she refused to do so he basically told her it wasn�t a request it was an order and if she didn�t like it she could always step down as DA.

Well stepping down wasn�t something she planned on doing and wasn�t going to take lying down. She simply explained her right as the DA to take this case on. And when he threw back at her, her involvement with the criminal she made it clear he was an alleged criminal and that this office knew of her involvement since day one. Sonny Corinthos had always been her daughter Kristina�s father and that was something of public record.

The mayor didn�t take to lightly the use of her daughter and decided he no longer wanted to play mind games with this woman. He told her he was pulling rank and she could either hand over the case or step down.

Alexis was just about to resign as DA when Sonny�s bodyguard Max walked into the room.

�Excuse me Ms. Davis but I really do need to talk to you. It�s urgent!�

The mayor just laughed at Alexis as he walked out of her office before giving her the ultimatum one last time.

Max looked at Alexis who seemed lost, he knew right there and then things weren�t looking so good for his boss Sonny. He explained to her why he was there and how he needed to know what they had on him and how soon before she could get him out.

Alexis told him as the DA she hadn�t had a clue what they had on him but that she would be stepping down as DA and as his lawyer would be able to obtain the information.

Max pleaded with her not to step down but she reassured him that it was the best thing to do. Especially after you consider everything that is about to go down, the wedding notwithstanding. She went on to explain to Max that she loved Sonny too much to just stand by and watch somebody put him away. That the best thing she could do now was to be his lawyer full and clear.

Max didn�t know what else to say to her as she walked past him and back down to the interrogations room. She wasn�t too pleased to find Sonny not in it. She demanded to know where the prisoner was but nobody would tell her. That was until Detective Lucky Spencer walked in and told her he saw them take him down to booking about an hour ago.

Alexis�s heart nearly skipped a beat as she ran down to booking. She knew he�d already been place in a cell and demanded to know which one. Once she was told and officer took her to see him. He looked so pale and scared. She had only seen him like this once before and that scared the hell out of her then. Not to mention he barely survived it back then when she spent the night outside his cell. Something if she was going to get him out of here she couldn�t do to night.

He kissed her as best he could through the bars and told her that he would be okay. Now that he had her love he knows everything will be okay and he�ll survive the night. She told him how sorry she was that she couldn�t get him released but she would make sure, come hell or high water, that his name would be on the docket for first thing tomorrow morning. He then told her she looked tired and that she should go home to the girls and get some sleep. She refused at first and spend a few more hours with him just talking but time was running out and they both knew it. As much as she hated to do so she had to leave him, so they said their goodbyes with tears screaming down their faces.

He once again reassured her that he was going to be okay while she was gone as he touched the side of her face and wiped away her tears.

Alexis went home and kissed her girls as they slept. She silently told Kristina that her daddy would be home tomorrow if it was the last thing she did.

Viola walked out into the living room and handed Alexis a much needed cup of coffee. Alexis thanked her and informed her of the time and that she really needed to get some sleep. The girls would be up in less than a few hours. Viola told Alexis that she would be fine and wanted to help her in any way she could. Alexis just smiled and told to keep the coffee hot and coming.

Diane showed up a few minutes later and handed her everything she could find out. Alexis was flabbergasted when she opened the file and found out that the person Sonny was being accused of murdering was none other than Jerry Jacks himself.

Alexis feel back on the couch and Diane joined her. Asking her if she was sorry she stepped down as DA and did she still believe in his innocents?

Alexis looked up at Diane and told her face blank that she believed in Sonny one hundred percent. That if he had ordered a hit on Jerry he would have told her. Or at least given some sort of hint that he was guilt.

Diane then asked her what her plan of attack was. In which she informed her that she may have made an enemy out of some of the judges tonight by calling them at such an ungodly hour but that she did find one judge who said they would make sure Sonny�s name was the first case on his docket.

At eight am Sonny was brought into the court room. Alexis hated seeing him sit there with the other chained prisoners but she knew there was nothing she could do about it. They just smiled at each other as the newly reappointed DA Scott Baldwin walked into the court room. Sonny�s eyes grew big as he realized what Alexis did, what she gave up for him. He wanted to run right over to her and tell her no Alexis make this right again. Don�t let them push you out of office and replace you with the likes of Scott Baldwin. But he knew he couldn�t, that it was her decision to make, he couldn�t control Alexis the way he controlled Carly. He loved her too much and if this is what she thought was best then so be it.

Soon Judge Richardson walked into the courtroom and Scott�s face went blank. His name wasn�t on the docket for this morning so he knew Alexis was once again up to her old tricks. But just like Sonny there was nothing he could do about it. Sonny Corinthos was about to walk out of the courtroom on bail.

And sure enough that�s what happened. Scott pleaded his case. Alexis basically, according to Scott, batted her eyebrows and there walked Sonny Corinthos, known mobster; charged with murder, right out the front door.

Sonny didn�t say much to either Alexis or Diane on the way home. Alexis knew however that it was just because he needed to feel the fresh air on his face. She knew even her love like he proclaimed, wasn�t enough to stop the claustrophobia from hitting him hard while he was in that cell. He needed to feel free again, like nothing could hold him back, not even the wind.

A few moments later the car pulled up to the Lake House. Diane smiled at Alexis as she was the first to exit the vehicle. Alexis wanted to talk to Sonny and tell him again how sorry she was that he had to spend the night in prison but she didn�t want to feel like a broken record. So instead she opted to keep it to herself.

Sonny turned and looked at her with his dimples shinning bright before he gave her a quick kiss on the lips and hopped out of the car. He stood there for a moment taking in the freshness of the air before he leaned back into the car and extended his hand to her.

Lovingly she took his hand and he helped her out. He then grabbed her quickly and urgently locking her into a very seductive lip lock. Their bodies slammed into the side of the limo and their fingers intertwined. He lifted their hands over their head and would have taken her right there in the driveway if it wasn�t for the fact that Diane and the girls were inside the house waiting for them.

Diane didn�t stay at the Lake House very long. She was just there long enough to say hello to the girls and to pick up her car. Alexis said her goodbyes to her good friend and promised her she�d call her if she needed anything. Alexis grateful to finally have another female to turn to.

Shortly after Diane left Alexis asked Viola to take the girls out back for a little while. This caused a backwards glance from Sonny who was none too pleased. He wanted to forgot about his night in jail and spend the day with Alexis and the girls.

Alexis on the other hand wanted to do what she did best, and get straight to work. She pulled out her cell phone and the file that Diane had dropped off the night before. She then started to ask Sonny question after question about his whereabouts and his motive. He in turn ignored her, which didn�t go unnoticed.

Alexis defiantly wasn�t amused when he walked over, took her file from her and dropped it on the desk. �I don�t want to do this now.� He then simply replied as he pulled her close and tried his hardest to seduce her. �I want to take you in the other room, have my way with you and then spend the rest of the day playing with Kristina, Molly and if Carly will let me, my little boy Morgan.� He looked her in the eyes. �You don�t mind if I send for him do you?�

Alexis didn�t mind Morgan begin there and Sonny knew it. Morgan like it or not was Kristina�s sister and was always welcomed into her home. She knew that Sonny was just trying to distract her and it finally worked, she reluctantly gave in.

Well that was after, almost an hour and a half of a very loud discussion. Interrupted several times on Sonny�s part by some very hot breathless kisses. Sonny knew how to push all her buttons� the good� the bad.. and the downright dirty.
Sonny finally won the fight and he enjoyed every minute of it. He started the afternoon off by going into the back yard, kicking his shoes off and joining the girls who were making mud castles in the sandbox. Before he knew what happened however they were trying to bury him underneath the castle. The mud was dripping down his face and all he asked was please not in the eyes. Alexis walked out with a tray of lemonade, which she almost dropped as she took in the sight in front of her. Both the girls and Sonny were soaking wet and covered with mud from head to toe. The look on Alexis�s face was priceless as Sonny busted out laughing.

After Alexis finally got the girls cleaned up they joined Sonny on the living room floor. He found it strange that his daughter was carrying a box full of cars. Playing with cars is something he always thought about doing with his boys not the girls. Of course things made more sense to him when Molly walked over with a bunch of Barbie dolls and announced that cars were stupid she wanted to play house.

Sonny made Alexis, Kristina, Molly and Morgan, who finally made his way over to the house, the best dinner ever. Morgan didn�t like the fact that he had to eat peas however and thus started a food fight. Alexis clearly wasn�t amused as her girls threw food across the dining room table. She was about to object when Sonny smashed mash potatoes all over her face and then licked it clean.

The day was perfect Alexis thought to herself as she made her way out onto the front porch. By the nights end thou Alexis knew something had Sonny spooked and she didn�t think it had anything to do with the death of Jerry Jacks. She however couldn�t be a hundred percent sure. And that bothered her more than anything. She thought she knew Sonny better then she apparently did. She just hopped he wasn�t having second thoughts about their up and coming wedding.

The wedding she thought to herself. I really hope he doesn�t want to call the whole thing off. Especially now that he�s been charged of murdering a man, who half the town saw him threaten to basically kill not that long ago at the Metro Court.

Damn we really need to stay out of that place. There are way too many people with way to many common interest for us to be hanging out there. �The next time Sonny and I go out to dinner it will be someplace else.� Alexis spoke out loud as she picked up one of Morgan�s dinosaurs that he must have left behind when Max took him home. �Besides who the heck needs Carly and her evil looks.� She then chuckled.

�What�s so funny?� Sonny asked as he walked out onto the front porch. Alexis just turned and smiled at him as she held up the toy. �I tucked both Molly and Kristina into bed and they wanted me to tell you they were waiting for their mommy�s goodnight kisses.�

Alexis walked up, grabbed his suit jacket and pulled him close. �It�s a nice night, do you mind if we talk out here?�

Sonny nodded his head and then smacked her on the butt as she walked back into the house. She emerged a few minutes later with two cups of coffee. Sonny shook his head so Alexis placed it on the a nearby table. �Talk to me Sonny. Tell me what it is, so I can help you deal with it?� She quietly but meaningfully asked.

Sonny held out his hand and she walked over to him. He lovingly placed her hand in his and then kissed it softly before pulling her over to the porch swing. They both made themselves comfortable before she asked her question once more.

Sonny looked up into the sky and then started to talk about the stars. Alexis just smiled up at him and then decided that tomorrow was another day. In turn Sonny looked down at her and gazed into her eyes. Silently he thanked her for letting it go, for just letting tonight be their night.
