| Chapter 14
Alexis is talking on her cell phone while trying to unlock her office door. �I need you to find out anything you can on the poison and the effect of it that my nephew was induced with.� She yelled at the other person on the phone as she pushed open the door. She dropped her keys on the table as she turned on the light. �I know that already, but there has to be more to it then just that..� She added as she placed her briefcase on her desk and turned around. �I have to go, I�ll call you back�.You better have something for me.� She demanded as she closed her cell. �Are you Alexis Davis?� A young man standing inches from her asked. �Depends on who wants to know?� He holds up a large envelope. �I was told to deliver this to you, right away.� She takes the envelope and looks at it. There�s nothing written on the front or back side of it, so she decides to open it in front of him. She takes a few second to look through it and then places it on her desk. She opens her purse and pulls out a hundred dollar bill. �The man did tell you to drop this off and then forget ever being here, correct?� She asked. He takes the money from her. �Hey I was just visiting an old friend in the building and got off on the wrong floor.� He puts the money in his pocket. �Thanks for the directions.� He walks out of her office and closes the door behind him. She looks through the papers a few more times to see if she�s missing something. She picks her cell phone up and pushes a number on her redial. �I knew you�d be calling.� A undisclosed man on the other end of the phone stated. �I take it you got the envelope.� She sits down behind her desk, papers still in hand. �I paid a hundred bucks and lost a big favor for a bunch of phone records.� She said annoyed. �Oh but look closely at them.� He replied. �They�re not just anybody�s phone records. They belong to a one Trevor Lansing, AKA Lance Richardson.� �So Trevor has a cell under a different name big deal.� �You know Alexis you never use to be so difficult to please.� He joked. �Notice anything strange about the numbers?� She runs her fingers up and down the front page. �Yea it seems Mr. Richardson is getting a call from the same person two or three times a day.� She turns the page over. �Sometimes everyday.� �Does that phone number look familiar to you Alexis?� She smiles. �There�s something in the tone of your voice that tells me I�m going to be owing you big time.� �Oh yea.� He replies as a seductive tone of laughter fills the airwaves. �That number belongs to the one and only Diane Miller, also known as Sonny Corinthos mouth piece.� Alexis drops the papers on her desk. �Are you positive of that?� �With out a doubt.� She starts to look at the time the calls were made. �Can you prove this line actually belongs to Trevor?� �I�m still working on that. But trust me Alexis it�s his phone.� �Thanks, keep working on it and get back to me like yesterday.� �I�m on it.� Was the last thing heard as she shut her cell. She picks up the phone on her desk. �Betty I�m going to taking off for a while this morning.� She says to her secretary. �I need you to clear my calendar till after lunch.� She hangs the phone up, places the papers back into the envelope and into her briefcase. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ She comes walking off the elevator and into the restaurant. �Where the heck are you.� She yells to herself as she closes her cell. �Looking for anybody in particular?� A sad sounding Jax asked as he walked up behind her. �You want to talk about it?� She asked taking a hold of his hand. �Have you eaten?� He solemnly asked. �This might take a while.� �Actually I haven�t and food sounds really good right about now.� They walk over to a table and Jax orders two specials and some coffee. �So what are you doing in the restaurant if you weren�t planning on eating?� He asked. �I was looking for Sonny, I need to talk to him and I thought he mentioned something about meeting somebody here for breakfast this morning.� �Sonny the pain of my existence.� Jax shot back. Alexis became real concerned. �Did he do something to you Jax, because if he did��..� �NO Alexis.� He said cutting her off. �It�s not him it�s Carly.� �What has she done to you?� She leans across the table. �I�d sit here and tell you that you shouldn�t have married her in the first place but you look like you�ve been beaten enough.� �You and I both know she loves Sonny and always will. It�s like there descent to be together and damn anybody who gets in their way.� Alexis�s hurt sunk. �You don�t think that he and she are���..� �No.� He said picking up his glass of water. �But I�m sure it won�t be long now.� She felt somewhat relived but not reassured. �What makes you think she�s ready to leave you and go running back to Sonny?� She asked, but on some level not really wanting to know the answer. �I think apart of her never left him Alexis. Everything that happens, happens because of Sonny Corinthos. We have bodyguards around everywhere we go because of Sonny Corinthos�..everything she does revolves around him Alexis and there�s just no denying that anymore.� He sits back in his chair. �I just have to accept that she�s a part of his life and I can�t� Alexis had so many thoughts running through her head that it was actually causing her to get a headache. He leans over the table and takes her hand. �You were smart enough to walk away. You knew being a part of Sonny�s world wasn�t a safe place to be. I wish for your sake and the sake of your daughter he never would have found out the truth about that little girl.� �Don�t say that Jax���� I�m glad Sonny�s a part of Kristina�s life and I honestly regret keeping him out of her life for the first two years.� �How can you say that Alexis.� Jax said annoyed. �Sonny Corinthos is a mob boss and you did everything right by keeping him out of Kristina�s life.� �He may live a dangerous life Jax��.. but if truth be told Kristina and Molly are in more danger by just being a Cassadine, then they could ever be because of Sonny.� �You don�t honestly believe that Alexis?� �Yes I do.� She says plainly. �My family kills from the inside and leaves no trace. There isn�t a day that goes by that I�m not scared to death Helena is going to show up and do something to them.� �If Helena wanted to hurt your girls Alexis, she would have done it long ago.� �It�s not so much hurting them as it would be hurting me.� Alexis cell phone rings. �I have to take this.� �No Problem.� Jax says getting up. �I�m going to see what�s keeping our breakfast.� She flips open her phone. �Alexis Davis here.� �Sonny Corinthos here.� He replied from the other end of the line. �I see I�ve missed several of your calls.� �Thank god you called me back. Where are you? We need to talk.� She stated in a hurried voice. �I was in a meeting with Diane all morning. Is there something wrong.� �Extremely.� She announces. �Is Diane still there?� �No she�s gone.� �Good. I need to see you now.� He can hear the urgency in her voice. �Are you in trouble?� �No I�m fine, I�m at the Metro Court having breakfast with Jax.� �Alright, I�ll be right there.� She closes her phone as Jax walks back over to the table with two plates of food. �Should I feel honored being severed by the owner himself.� He smiles at her as he places a plate in front of her. �I�m not really sure what it is. I just walked into the kitchen grabbed the first two plates I came across and ran.� �You seem to be in a better mood.� �What can I say the presences of your company always puts me in a better mood.� He replied sitting down. �Why did we ever get divorced?� �Because you wanted to marry another woman.� She laughed as she put a fork full of eggs in her mouth. �Alexis can I ask you a serious question?� �You my best friend, can ask me anything.� �What made you fall for a man like Sonny?� Alexis almost chocked on the food she had in her mouth. She swallowed quickly followed by a drink of water. �I mean what is it about him that would make a hard working, intelligent, loving woman like yourself. Be drawn to a man who has no principles what so ever?� �Sonny can be a very charming man.� She replies putting her glass back on the table. �Do you regret sleeping with him?� She pushed her plate of food away. �No I don�t and I never did. He gave me the best thing a man can give me that night, my precious little girl and I�ll never regret that.� Jax was about to say something but Alexis continued to talk. �Do I regret things that happened after that night? Yes I do. I wish I could go back and do it all over again because thanks to me��.. Sonny lost so much of his daughters life and that�s something no matter how hard I try ���I can never give him back.� Jax wipes his mouth off on his napkin. �If I didn�t know any better Alexis, I�d think you were still in love with the man.� Alexis didn�t know what to say so she just cocked her head and gave him a crooked smile. �Lighten up I was only kidding.� She looked down at her watch. �I hate to do this to you but I really do have to get going.� She stands up. �Can we finish this conversation later.� He stands up and gives her a kiss. �Thanks for joining me for breakfast. Believe it or not I do feel a little better.� �Hang in there Jax, everything will work out for the best.� �If not, we always have each other.� He jokes �That we do.� She says as she kisses his cheek and then proceeds to wipe her lipstick from it. �Call me later if you need anything.� �I will.� He says walking off. She picks up her cell phone and hits redial. �Damn voice mail.� She says closing it. �He said he�d be right here so where is he?� |
