Primal Blue
Silas Watcher is a teenage boy who hates his life. He's even started to hate his friends, who still seem content to occupy their time doing the same old stuff in the same old places the same old ways they've always done them ever since they could remember.
Most of all, Silas hates the small, boring sub-urban town of Autumn Grove, where he's lived all his life. A town where nothing exciting ever happens, and the things that do are so routine, so bland and regular, that most days it feels like he's sleepwalking through it all.
But the girl next door is about to change all of that.
Monica Slipper has been orphaned by her father's unfortunate death, and her mother's tragic descent into insanity. Turned away by her grandparents, the Slippers, Monica is sent to live with her uncle, Leviticus Simm; a reclusive old hermit living on a lonely hilltop in a dark, disturbing mansion the townspeople want condemned; a mansion inside which Silas Watcher is sure odd Mr. Simm is up to some very nasty, very terrible experiments involving outlawed technology and alien monsters hiding in the cemetary behind the manor.
Primal Blue is a story about wonder, and the people who dare to dream that there are bigger things at work in the world than what we're aware of on the surface. It's about adventure, and romance and that swashbuckling spirit we seem to have lost somewhere along the way.
Most of all it's about people who are stuck, but want desperately to get out of the rut to reach that seemingly unattainable goal of a life full of amazement and astonishing thrills.
I'm writing it for the stargazers, the imaginative "dorks" with their heads stuck in the clouds, the hopeless romantics and my friend Ben, who just might be the real Flash Gordon; if only he could find Doctor Zarkov's rocket ship!
