on Ocotber 26.
Show opens with Paul Heyman and JR already seated. Crowd is hot, venue looks full although view is murky due to excessive pyro use. Christian is out first to a mixed response (we cheer everybody in the UK we are so happy to see them). Edge gets a nice pop. Action takes place in a cage with one referee on the inside and one of the outside. They are teasing lots of "first out the cage wins" although pinfalls also count. Five minutes in and JR is already plugging Austin Vs Rock. Christian dominates Edge until Edge spears Christian. Not really make use of the cage finally Edge is throwing Christian into each side of the cage. Christian crawls over the cage but Edge grabs his ankles and ties Christian's boots together, so that Christian is hanging upside down from the cage helpless as Edge jumps out, still champion.
Chavo (with make-up) is back stage excited at interviewing the Divas, he's interrupted by Hugh Morrus. They walk in on a topless Trish (back only) who has a towel conveniently placed over her assets. Looks like the two are reduced to tonight's comedy spots. They are off to interview other Divas. Anybody remember Chavo doing similar backstage skits in WCW?
2nd match sees Scotty 2 Hotty Vs Hurricane without Molly, both coming out to good pops. Paul Heyman is mocking the worm; JR mentions it rains a lot in Manchester. Back and forth match, Hurricane is being booed as he reaches for the cape, but he's caught on top rope, S2H performs a DDT on a flying Hurricane. Superkick from Scotty, two count. After the biggest pop of the night, Scotty wins with the Worm.
DDP cuts a motivational promo.
DDP Vs Big Show, who JR claims is the biggest ever performer in sports entertainment history, DDP performs the diamond cutter after an initial pounding from Big Show. Chokeslam finishes DDP quickly; DDP tries to cut a "bad thing, good thing" promo, but adds he cant wait to leave this country.
Chavo and Hugh surprise a shocked, fully clothed Molly who reaches for her cape. Angle makes references to Knights Of The Round Table as Austin, Debra, Shane and Angle sit around a darkened table APA style. Austin says talk of Knights and round tables is pathetic. The Alliance love-in may be over.
Match four and JR is already getting the Hardys mixed up, the two are getting the loudest pops tonight in Manchester in the 3-way tag with the Dudleys and APA. Crowd are chanting for tables already. APA are quickly eliminated leaving The Dudleys to call for the tables and your standard tag-team match, Dudleys get the upper hand, Low blow from Jeff Hardy leaves Bubba Ray kicking out, D-Von and Matt are now the legal men, its back and forward stuff. Poetry in motion from Jeff, Jeff attempts a swanton, Dudleys prevail with a quick 3-D, Dudleys win due to Jeff missing that Swanton bomb.
Dont try this at home promo, shots of the outside of the Manchester Evening News venue and plug for the next UK only PPV due to be announced soon. Paul Heyman and JR recap the Y2J Vs. Rock recent war. Cuts to Y2J and Vince and then pans out to see Rock sat on the other side of Vince (loud pop), Vince pleads with the two to bury the hatchet for now and shake hands like gentlemen. Vince is dressed casual in a nice brown leather jacket. They shake hands but as Vince leaves they start brawling again as Y2J tells Rock try not to lose a big one again.
Paul Heyman claims Regal is Tony Blair's role model to which JR apologies. Regal cuts a promo about being a role model, spending their dole money (unemployment benefit) on tickets, and slating local football (soccer) team Manchester United and it's star player David Beckham. Mixed response to Regal as always in the UK, Regal sucks chant starts as Tajiri tries to get the upper hand. Regal wins with the STF as Tajiri taps out, Regal's chest is red and bloodied, Tajiri loses but gets the green mist in Regal's face.
Chris Jericho beats Kurt Angle in an excellent match with a roll-up, but Angle performs two Angle slams after the pin. Earlier Y2J had attempted Angle's ankle lock. Loudest pop of the night. Great match, with Nick Patrick playing it down the middle.
Rock cuts a promo with Michael Cole talking about English pie and English strudel asking Cole which he prefers, he never gets a chance.
Stacey & Molly vs. Torrie & Lita, with Trish as the referee. Both Stacey Keibler and Torrie Wilson perform cartwheels. JR talks about selling over 50,000 tickets in Canada today in less than an hour for March's WM PPV. JR calls Paul Heyman a lonely man, Mighty Molly is left to do most of the wrestling but Lita performs a head scissors before a Mighty Molly clothesline. Lita and Torrie win quickly when Lita performs a twist of fate. Ref Trish bulldogs Stacey Keibler after the bell and walks off with the WWF Divas side by side.
Not even two hours in to Rebellion and its main event time, the Chavo/Morrus skit dropped.
Austin is out to a muted crowd, Rock however gets the pop of the night, perfectly in time with fireworks being let off locally as bonfire night November 5th approaches. Both quickly start brawling outside the ring, making use of the Spanish announcers table ... wait a minute, this is Manchester JR and Paul Heyman quickly get out the way. Austin is suplexed on the steel entrance twice by Rock as they brawl up and down the entrance way. Austin catapults Rock into the ring post as they brawl around the ring, Austin makes use of the elbow as they crawl back into the ring. Austin smothers Rock using the ropes then stands on the turnbuckle to raise the finger to the crowd. Rocky kicks out, he wont stay down, back to the announcers table. Austin attempts a piledriver on the table but Rock low blows him, announcers table is saved tonight. It just wont break, as The Rock's knee hits the table as JR and Heyman stand watching on Austin gives ref Hebner the finger, Hebner returns the gesture. Rock kicks out in the center of the ring. Its all Austin. Rock gives Austin several fingers as he makes a short comeback, Austin slaps on the sleeper center of the ring, Hebner is checking Rocks hand for signs of life, he up on the third time of asking attempting a sleeper of his own. Austin soon gets the upper hand, double clothesline puts both men down, Earl takes a bump from both Austin and The Rock, Rock gets the pin, only he doesn't as Earl is out cold, Austin slaps the sharpshooter on The Rock but The Rock counters. Angle comes out with a chairshot to Rock but Y2J makes the save and hits Angle out of the ring. Rock recovers to see Y2J holding the chair, the two clash. Rock performs the rock bottom on Austin but Angle is back and pulls Rock out of the ring hitting the Rock with the belt before Austin recovers to score the pin with a stunner as Earl recovers. Austin embraces Angle in the center of the ring the two (Austin and Angle) walk out together.
2 Hours and 15 minutes and that's it!! Strong matches from Angle, Y2J and The Rock and Austin.
After the show, Angle and Austin had left - Jericho was going to leave but Rocky incited him back in with a 'just bring it'. The two began to go at it, with Jericho getting the upper hand. He went for the People's Elbow before the Rock sprung up and Rock Bottomed him.
After that Jericho rolled out and kinda disappeared while the Rock called out Austin. Austin came down the ramp and tossed the belt into the ring while waiting outside. Rocky said 'no Rock Bottoms, no Stunners: I just want a chit chat'. So Austin got in the ring, and the two had fun getting the mic off each other and doing each others' catchphrases. Eventually Austin got the mic and had a bit of fun with the crowd deliberately getting the name wrong ('here in Birmingham, England, then London, England' (we were in Manchester).
Every time he asked the crowd a question everyone just replied with 'what, what' which was pretty funny. Eventually Austin challenged the Rock.... to a singing contest. Austin sang London Bridge is Falling Down, and Rocky sang Smackdown Hotel, before the two had a bit of a duet ending with a Rock Bottom.
Pretty good segment after the cameras had finished rolling, but not really worth the PPV charge if you were at home.
So it should be intersting to see how The Rock/Austin feud plays out over the next few weeks.
