"That's what Melanie said." "Well, I'm just glad that I'll be able to meet them again. I want to thank them in person for bringing you to my recital. If it weren't for them" "And here they are." Justin smiled at him Mel and Linds rushed right over and were hugging and kissing them both. "Hi. We're so glad you came." "Well, you practically forced me." "And it's a good thing we did. Now Ethan, come on. I want to introduce you to everyone. I know Debbie is dying to meet you." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Brian sat on one of the chairs that were scattered around the garden. He wasn't planning on attending but when the day of the party arrived he just went over to the house without thinking. He needed to see Justin. He knew that he couldn't be the boyfriend Justin wanted, but still, he planned on always being around to make sure that Justin didn't forget about him and everything they had shared together. He spotted Ethan being draged by the girls and watched Justin stand there. Brian kept looking at him until Justin looked back. He kept the eye contact for a few more seconds, then got up and went in the house. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Justin watched Brian go in the house and immediately followed him. He couldn't stop thinking about what Brian had said to him at the loft. What did he mean when he said that he was thinking about what was best for himself when he was in the back room with Rage? And why would he want him to keep the key? Does he think that something might still happen between them? Justin smiled at the thought of being once again in Brian's arms. But he also knew that he would never go back unless Brian was willing to change. When he walked in he saw Brian sitting in the living room. "Brian?" He didn't answer. "Brian, what did you mean before?" "Why are thinking about something I said when you should be thinking about your boyfriend?" "Brian. Can't you just give me a straight answer for once?" "Straight." Brian chuckled and got up. "I need a drink. Care to help me look?" "Sure, let's go outside." "I don't want to go outside." He walked over to the kitchen with Justin in tow, grabbed two beers from the fridge and handed one to Justin. ""Here you go." Justin took the bottle. "I can't stay." "Right. Wouldn't want to keep your boyfriend waiting." Justin turned to leave. "By the way, I hope you get what you want." Justin turned back and looked at Brian. "Do you? really?" Brian nodded. "I just want you to be happy." "Then how come you never tried making me happy?" "I tried. It just wasn't good enough, I guess." "You tried? When exactly did you try? When you got me a hustler for my birthday? When I asked you to stay home for one night and you went out anyway? When you cancelled our trip to vermont without an explanation? When you fucked tricks in our bed? When you couldn't even admit that you cared about me or even that we were in a relationship? God, Brian." Brian didn't say anything. He didn't know what to say. He knew that Justin was right. He fucked up. Big time. Justin was so angry at him. What was he thinking? Did he really think that Justin would come back to him after his relationship with the starving artist ran its course? He obviously misread the entire situation. Was that it? Had he lost him for good? He knew now that there was no way that Justin would come back to him unless he were to do something drastic to show him how much he means to him. But the problem was that Brian wasn't sure if he could. So sat down back on the couch and took another sip from the bottle. "Brian? Say something." Brian just looked at him and shrugged. He really didn't know what to say. Justin just shook his head and went back outside. He would never understand Brian. Sometimes he thought that he didn't care about him but other times he was sure that Brian loved him. Just by looking in his eyes. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "Here you are! Where have you been?" Ethan leaned in to give him a quick kiss. "Just went inside to use the bathroom." "Oh, ok. Well, met Debbie. Quite a character." Ethan laughed. "I know." "But she loves you to death." Ethan added. "Just like me." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Brian sighed and looked over to his left, like he did every time he woke up. He wasn't sure if it was a force of habit or hope to see Justin there again. This time when he turned to look he saw a young man with blond hair sleeping with his back to him. His heart skipped. He reached over and caressed the young man's back when he suddenly remembered everything that had happened in the previous day. The guy turned around and smiled. "Good morning." "It's not morning yet." "Oh. You want me to leave?" "Suit yourself." Brian turned to his right and tried to get some more sleep. "So how was I compared to him?" "You were fine." "Just not him. So what happened with you two?" Brian looked back at the guy. "Didn't your mother ever teach you to mind your business?" "Sorry. I was just curious. You obviously miss him." "He has a boyfriend." It felt good to open up. He was a stranger. No one would ever know. "Oh..how long?" "Just a couple of days, officially." "He cheated on you?" "It's a little complicated." "Open relationship?" "Yea." "Well, that's what happens when you let everyone in. gets too crowded." "He didn't leave because of that." "No?" "He wanted things from me I wouldn't give him." "Things? Like what?" "Romance." "Oh. Well we all want that." "Not you too." "Especially me. Who doesn't want to be with someone who would love him no matter what?" "But I do." "Have you told him that? "No." He got up and went to get a drink. "I can't tell him. I just can't. Besides, he wants more stuff. He wants us to stay in, buy flowers, have picnics and act all lesbian. I can't do that. It's just not me." "Well, if you want to be with him you're just going have to make some sacrifices." Brian looked at him. He already knew all that. He wanted to tell Justin how he felt about him but he couldn't. he wanted to buy him flowers but he couldn't. He just couldn't. continue to part 3 |
