So, what exactly does "Third Estate" mean?
Social Structure of the Old Regime The Third Estate (forgive the format.....it is still readable.) The third estate, or the commoners of society, constituted the overwhelming majority of the French population. They were divided by vast differences in occupation, level of education, and wealth.(Wait a second! The "band" third estate said, when describing their orgin during a radio interview for the group's name, claimed that Third Estate was the peasant class .....maybe if you stayed in highschool you would know that although the peasants constituted 75 to 80 percent of the Third Estate, they were by no means, more significant than the wage earners and bourgeoisie. In fact, the French Revolution was not a peasant's war at all, as the band claims! The driving force was the middle class.)
Maybe the American punks from Third Estate should read this. They might learn something about what the name of their band ACTUALLY means!!!
