Roy stared at the young man like he'd lost his mind. "You can't, Al. Ed needs you to stay here and close the gate."
"No, he doesn't. He needs someone to close the gate, but it doesn't have to be me. It could be you. Besides, when has Ed not needed me?" And with that, Alphonse Elric transmuted a portion of the bridge they were on to fly him towards the airship that carried his brother.

Roy tried for three days to close the gate, until Hawkeye came to him and told him to stop. "You're killing yourself, Roy."
