Calling All Angels

Logan eyed the road in front of him. If I keep going this way, it will take about three days to get back to the school. He looked to his left. If I go this way, maybe 42 hours. He stared at the little red button on the bike. And if I hit this button, Ill be back there tomorrow. Yeah, its a real tough decision. Another day to figure out all the shit I found out up there, or getting back in time to see Marie turn 22.

Although he had been in the Canadian Rockies for the last four years, trying to hunt down what he could of his past, Logan still kept up with the kid. No longer a kid, he reminded himself. He checked the saddle bag one more time to make sure that her birthday present was still there. It wasnt much; just a leather bound journal, and a couple of silk scarves, although she didnt need them now. Thats just one more thing he was sorry he missed. The day that Chuck and Jean had discovered that the untouchable girl could in fact control her deadly skin. But he still bought her scarves, even though shed been touchable for nearly two years now. Why? she asked him one time on the phone. Because, he thought, it makes you look like an angel. But did he actually say that? Hell no, because even though time away had made him realize that she was more than just a little girl with a hero complex, he couldnt say anything. She was happy, spending time with the various boys at the school. But lately it was a new kid, a Cajun. Named Gamble or some stupid shit like that. Jealously rears its ugly head again, Logan thought, as he pushed the button that would get him home within twenty four hours.

No matter how many times he went over it in his head, Logan still couldnt figure out anything from what he learned in Canada. It was all just little bits and pieces that made no sense and had no order to them, at least as far as he could tell.

That was one of the great things about being back at the school again. Chuck might be able to put some order to all the scenes in his head.

And Marie would be there.

And he would be able to bug the hell out of One-Eye again.

Reaching his exit on the interstate, the memories of four years ago returned to Logan. Finding Marie in the back of his trailer, winding up at Xaviers, stabbing her through the chest, waking up to find she had left, promising to protect her on the train, saving her on the Statue of Liberty, realizing that he was in love with her, leaving. Phone calls and letters over the past few years to keep in touch, giving her time to grow up. And now she has. And now Im going home. To Marie. But I need a sign to let me know youre here Marie. Cause I dont think I can go through this if youre not, Logan thought as he slowed down to enter the gates of Xaviers School for the Gifted.

The front door opened, and there stood Rogue.
