Hyde, Ken, Tetsu and Yukihiro have their own music style. That makes an album variated and seems to be 'rich'.

Music Styles

Although Ken is often compose songs in rock side, when he creates slower songs, he's just... amazing. In niji, Forbidden Lover or Kasou, we can see he was creating unfamiliar melody, but it's sharp and minor. They're not songs that you will like once you hear them, but the songs will grow in you. Another Ken song that makes me totally amazed is Shinshoku ~lose control~. Waaiii he uses 6/8. or even 7/8 tempo marking! It's rare to meet such tempo mark in pop/rock music! The changes of mood in the song is great also!! In the newest album, SMILE, it seems like Ken composed the songs heavier. With more guitar distortion variation and attractive drums. I personally think that his solo work in S.O.A.P. effected the composition. Ken also is a great guitarist. I don't understand guitar too much, but looking at those 1/32 notes in Heaven's Drive make me amazed that he could play that solo part perfectly.

Tetsu has his own unique music style. It's often to be said 'tetsu-ish'. Why? Because his style is the most difference with the other. While others are rockin, Tetsu did slow, much of pop and very 'clean'. Maybe it's because he minimalized the use guitar distortion or such, and raise some light drums and additional sounds. The easiest example for this is Snow Drop and Blurry Eyes. Beside, Tetsu likes to make songs using kinda small orchestra, or at least using violins and piano. Nahh you can realize those tetsu-ish songs easily, like Pieces or Hitomi no Jyuunin. I think Hitomi no Jyuunin is an exceptional coz he really tried to overcome the orchestral way. Sometimes Tetsu did more rockin songs, and it turns REALLY great, like Stay Away and Ready Steady GO! In playing instruments, Tetsu is known as one of Japan best bassist. He's been contracted by 3 different bass instrument company. Sugoii ne...

HYDE did some his songs in pop-rock style in L'Arc, different with his solo work. Heaven's Drive is totally mixing pop and rock, with awesome guitars parts. Compared to Ken's, Hyde's are more easier to be listened. Once you hear his songs, you can catch the beats. I really like HONEY and Route 666. Both two are in itchy tunes! For me, the best Hyde song is Spirit Dreams Inside. I love how each instruments mixed and completed the others. More, the drums work is absolutely amazing. I bet no  musicians has used that kind of beats before. For me, the drums beat means 'free' and out of pressure. Beside, the acoustic guitar makes the song so meant.  I don't know if it a coincidence or not, many of Hyde songs use second guitar which is played by Hyde himself. I see that he still love playing guitar, ne... Speaking of Hyde's voice, it will turn to word 'falsetto'. He can pull his voice to much upper or lower notes easily. The voice is so sweet! Sometimes in matched songs, his voice is totally hard and rough, but THAT'S the point in making the song's characteristic. Just like making the 'soul' to the song.

Then, Yukihiro. The drummer got unique melody that left the feeling of 'mystery' or 'dark'. I really feel those, especially in Get Out From The Shell. Waii makes me scared ne~ Hyde's voice makes it heavy and bold, with sounds of electric guitar and bass were just perfectly matching with the song. I like the way he composed trick. Nice melody!! If P'Unk~en~Ciel played it, it would be MUCH more spectacular. I mean, Tetsu (vocals), HYDE (guitar), Yukki (bass), and Ken (drum). Tetsu cute voice unexpectedly matched the song more than Hyde does. Beside trick, Revelation is another good song. Simple chorus but invited us to sing along!
