Chapter One

First Contact

Report. Captain Janeway ordered as she entered the bridge.

Nothing to report, its been a smooth ride. Commander Chakatoy replied.

Thats always good to hear. Captain Janeway said as she watched the peaceful space on the screen.

It had been a month since the USS Voyager, had encountered anything of hostile nature, but when it did happen, Captain Kathryn Janeway cherished every moment of it. Glancing about the bridge, she surveyed the crew she'd come to trust and admire, smiling to herself as individual memories surfaced.  Shaking off the momentary reverie, she turned again to Chakotay who smiled knowingly.  "I'll be in my ready room should you need me."  She nodded once and turned on her heel, "You have the bridge, Commander."

Later, Kathryn took a sip of her coffee in her ready room procrastinating to read the reports. Just then the door chimed.  "Come." she said, grateful for the interruption.

Seven! She said a pleasantly surprised by the visit of her Astrometric officer.

I have completed the Astrometrics scans for this sector Captain Seven said as she entered, handing Janeway a Data PADD.

Nothing hostile I hope. Janeway said.

None that I can detect, captain. Seven replied.

Janeway heard a pause, and a slight intake of breath, and Janeway knew that something was troubling the former drone.

But something about the scan troubles you doesnt it Seven?

Correct captain. On the edge of this sector, is a planetary system. The forth planet in that system called Astrazi', that had a thriving echo system with one dominating spices, with a Borg designation of 71549, known commonly as the Strazi. Species 71549 could be compared to humans in their pre industrial area.

That sounds like an interesting planet. Janeway said as she heard the description, she then realized that her Astrometrics Officer was talking in past tense, and she commented on the fact.

"Captain, the planet does not exist anymore. Seven said as she instructed the Captain to look at the particular area on the PADD

Are you sure the planet was supposed to be at this part of the space. Janeway asked.

Seven just raised an eyebrow at her Captain.

A whole planet disappeared? Janeaway asked in disbelief.

That is correct. I did a scan for ionic trails and it appears that it must have exploded minimum of three years prior. My scans also revealed that because of it the position of the solar system shifted. Seven informed her findings.

Before the Captain could discuss it further, her com beeped.

Go ahead. She said answering it.

Captain I think you should come here and look at this. Commander Chakatoy said.

She immediately got up, with Seven to following her.

Once in the bridge Captain Janeways eyes immediately went to a screen where an image of a body floating in the space was magnified.

What is that Commander? Janeway asked a little baffled by the image.

When our long range scanners picked up an object, we decided to investigate and this is what it shows. Chakatoy answered unwilling to say what it looked like.

Sensors have not indicated any warp or impulse trails that are no newer than five days old. Seven, said accessing the sensors, from the tactical station, on the aft bridge rail.

Seven of Nine is correct captain, Tuvok said, consulting his own console, this body has clearly been in space for a considerable amount of time. However logic dictates that though the body would have frozen through the vacuum, and absolute zero of deep space, the probability of the body surviving, or at least being ionized is considerably small.

Then its some kind of a machine. The Captain speculated.

Negative Captain. We scanned it and it appears to be human. Tuvok answered.

The whole bridge stared at it for a good couple of minutes, when finally Captain spoke.

Bring her...it ... aboard.

The news about a human body found in space quickly reached all quarters; soon the officers were gathered in the sick bay watching the dark haired beauty lying  intact with only minor scratches even after being in space.

Doctor, please dont tell me she is human. Captain Janeway asked.

I am afraid she is. Doctor replied after he finished his scan. And she is alive.

Janeway looked at the Doctor in surprise.

As soon as she entered the ship her vital functions started to work again. He reported as he drew a screen right on top of the body. Not to mention that her body seems to be self healing.

Humans are incapable of self healing. Tuvok stated.

I know but the DNA says she is human. Doctor replied.

Just then the door of the sick bay opened and Guinan entered. She ignored everyone in the room and went right up to the woman lying on the bed.

I was wondering when you would show up. Guinan said as she cupped the face of Voyagers newest find.

You know her? Captain asked the oldest woman of her crew.

Of course. Guinan replied as though it was obvious.

Who is she? Seven asked finding it fascinating.

Captain, I want you to meet, Faith Spencer, the slayer. Guinan said looking at the unconscious woman.

Her head was still hurting when she opened her eyes. But she got right up and looked around. It certainly wasnt what she had thought it would be like. She took a moment to regain her strength, and then quickly started to walk.

Just then something came from behind her and attacked her. She quickly responded with a quick maneuver that broke the attackers hand, but to her surprise the hand quickly held, and the man seemed to be unaffected by her blows.

Even though the man appeared human in every form, Seven doubted her physical scan as she blocked one too many blows from a otherwise weak looking human. The man quickly got her in a grip, but with a final ounce of energy in her she tucked down and then appeared behind him to hold him in front of her with her hands. Just then a woman jumped from the roof to the ground, landing unharmed, and walked right in front of them. She smiled as she took out a wooden stake and landed it on the mans heart causing him to dust. Thanks, you put on a hell of a good show. She said as she extended her hand to the shocked woman.

Im Kelly by the way. She introduced herself, as she shook the hand.

I am SevAnnika. Seven of Nine introduced herself.
