| I am currently a high school student and a dedicated dancer. I am zoned to Fort Bend ISD near Houston TX. I am always very busy with school work and dance, and I sometimes wonder, "Is it too much?" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It is not always an issue what I have for homework; its how much. I usually have many tests or quizzes to study for in addition projects, reports, reading, and the list goes on. The thing that takes me the longest is taking notes on our assigned readings. Also, my english teacher seems to give us nothing on the weekends, but then pour a huge pile on us on the weekends. I have also discovered that the longer the weekend/break, the more homework they give, for example, I already have tons of assignments for Thanksgiving break. I have dance from 3:30 to 9:00 on Mondays and Wednes days and 5:00 to 9:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (all icluding travel time). Then on Saturdays, I have dance from 9:30 to 4:00. I often stay up past midnight trying to finish my homework. Sometimes I do some ahead of time, but the next day more just piles on. I never, or at least extremely rarely, have any freetime on the weekends. I'm always either at school, dance, or at home doing homework -- never anywhere else. In addition to this, I have to get 125 volunteer hours by the time I graduate and only 25 hours are allowed to be done in the summer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Have you ever thought about how schooling will be like for future generations. We all know that school is harder than it was than lets say...10 or 20 years ago. Students are now required to be more well-rounded, good with people and community service... As this contuniues, competition between schools and students increase. It has become harder to get into colleges and university because of the higher expectations they have for us now. If life is already like this now? What will it be like for our kids and grandkids. Where else do the educators have to expand. It seems they've already pushed it to the limit. How much harder will it get? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Because of the amount of homework I have, I usually get an average of about 4 hours of sleep per night. I have heard many studies saying that teens my age should get about 8 hours of sleep in order to perform their best in school. I agree with their findings; however, it just isn't possible for me. I understand I have to manage my time wisely, but even then, there just doesn't seem to be enough time for eveything. I often wish there were more time in the day just so I can finish my work and get a sufficient amount of sleep. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
