A Moment of Silence for the Loved Ones we have Lost

Take a moment to Honor those we love who have passed on to the other side

Mollie Thurman Shumaker

"Spring Wind" and "Daughter of the Wind"

Ms. Mollie was born in Alabama from the Wind Clan, Okchia Clan. She was a loyal member of Holmes Valley Band of Creek Indians and Lower Muskogee Nation. Ms. Mollie is a descendant of Micco Ya-Ha Hajo. She was well-read and knowledgeable as she was a librarian at the Northwest Florida Library for 20 years. She lived in Chipley for 83 years. As she felt the Creek people were her children, Mollie dedicated her life to her people in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. She is survived by her two sons and their wives; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Mollie took her place rightfully among the Miccos. When Ms. Mollie spoke in her soft voice, legions of people hushed to cling to the wisdom in her words. Mollie was born Creek, lived Creek, and died Creek ! We are honoring Ms. Mollie at this festival for the many years of dedication and hard work she put forth for her beloved Creek people.
