VARIABLE IRISH CHAIN

"Neon Delight" emphasizes the startling difference between light and dark backgrounds. While the white background in "Jewel Box" (below) lends a very calm feeling, the use of black and only 4 solid colours here makes the blocks and the Irish Chain appear three-dimensional.

"Jewel Box" scrappy quilt. To achieve a balanced scrappy look, use no more than two pieces of the same fabric per block. Half-A blocks in the border create a sparkling chain around the entire quilt.

Here are the two simple blocks that make up this quilt.

are your images on??

Block A Block B

I've included directions and dimensions for both blocks in two sizes, 6" and 8" square. These measurements include a 1/4" seam allowance.

BLOCK A

For each 6" square block:
* Cut 8: 2" squares
* Cut 4: 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles

For each 8" square block:
*Cut 8: 2 1/2" squares
*Cut 4: 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles

BLOCK B

For each 6" square block:
*Cut 8: 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" triangles
For each 8" square block:
Cut 8: 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" triangles

This version was made using the 6" block, indicated above. I got it a little too large for the space intended, thus I put the binding in such a position that cut the 2" squares around the border in half.
