Total Control
9th September, 2003
The day may not be far, where humans will be assigned or rather implanted
Radio Frequency ID tags (or something more sophisticated) and thus be trackable
wherever they move, at all times. Combined with the Pentagon's planned, global meta-database
containing basic information about each and every human's biogenetic
characteristics, thought, consumer and behaviour patterns, we'll see the
total eclipse of privacy and total control of society.
Just think of "ChoicePoint", an already
infamous international buyer of a vast variety of sensitive data ranging
from of DNA probes to electoral registries, financial transactions, blood
groups, ID numbers, drivers licences and more, making these accessible
to US government agencies and being reported to have gathered and sold
data from millions of citizens of Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico,
Nicaragua and Costa Rica to US authorities.
The US government's demand for
all sorts of data from all sorts of citizens all over the world is aggressively
being pushed forward in the name of their "national security", more precisely
the "prevention of terrorist attacks", and is clad into the fine clothes
of the Total Information Awareness Act (renamed Terrorist
Information Awareness Act after realizing the public should not always
know that exactly what really stands on the order of the day), which is
an elegant instrument for national and international espionage, surveillance
and control.
How big a step is it from Total
Information Awareness, a world wide operating data collection and processing
network, to the standardization of human behaviour and thought, and thus
criminalization of any "deviating pattern"? - Watch out what you buy, where
you move, how you behave and ... what you think! George Orwell's very notion
of thought crime may materialize and stand next on the list!
