| . Come on Deven we have to get out of here whispered Rathe. Im to scared Rathe lets just stay here and maybe they will go away cried the frightened child. Look Deven we cant stay here they will find us. We have to go for help Rathe reasoned. But where will we get help the nearest town is two weeks ride from here and we have no supplies and no horses Deven shot back. Rathe slumped back against the cave wall as he admitted defeat to Devens reasoning. What are we to do Deven asked aloud. I dont know Deven, I simply dont know Rathe said with fresh tears staining his cheeks. As the two boys sat in the cold fox den scared and alone a young man wondered through the torn wreckage of the town. The demons gave him a wide birth spitting taunts and jeers at him as he passed but none would attack. Tohnathan smiled to himself as he savored the fear of the vile demon beasts. Oh how I wish my sister where here, he thought as he wondered past the last house. Tohnathans sister was the greatest fighter known to man but he was not a man. Tohnathan and his brother Rachel where halfbreeds, Halfdemon half elf and the only ones of there kind to remain. Now it was there turn to take revenge on the demons who had raped and destroyed there mother. Tohnathan walked into the field his robe swaying in the light breeze that played across the rolling hills. He stopped just short of the fox den where the two boys hide in utter fear. Come forth little ones I shall not harm you Tohnathan said soothingly. Deven and Rathe jumped at the sound of someone speaking. Maybe if we dont say anything he will go away Deven whispered. Rathe cowered down in the hole his eyes reflecting the flame of pure fear. Come now children tis time we were away from here Tohnathan stated. Still the two children were unmoved by the words of the beautiful man standing outside. Tohnathan was growing tired of waiting and new the demons would soon muster the courage to attack. Tohnathan could kill most of them but in the end he would die. Tohnathan waved his hand over the fox den muttering a few short arcane words. The ground began to fold back like a sheet on a bed, the two small children letting out shrieks of surprise. Tohnathan then threw dust in each childs face and watched as the children drifted off into a deep sleep. Thats better he said as he spun his finger in a circle creating a portal in the air. Now we must be going he said and the two children floated off the ground and through the portal. The demons began to close in on Tohnathan who simply flung his hand as if he were throwing a knife. An arch of lightening seared through the air crackling hungrily for the demons. It struck one and arched into another and another in succession till 5 of the demons lay dead. Tohnathan, happy with his little show, quickly stepped through the protal. ______________________________________________________________________________ Rachel paced back and forth in the small study that was her brothers office. Where is that damned mage brother of mine she thought as she fingered a sword at her side. He better not have called me here to run another stupid errand for him, I grow tired of retrieving his reagents for him she angrily thought as she came to rest beside the fire place. Suddenly a small portal opened near her brothers desk. Most warriors would have jumped at the site and stood at the ready but she feared nothing on this planet and simply stuck a pipe in her mouth and lit it. Bout time Tohnathan she growled. Well I had a little something to do dear sister Tohnathan said as he stepped out of the portal with the two sleeping children floating behind him. And what are those supposed to be she asked curiously. These are your new students he stated calmly. What I am not going to train those boys I have better things to do with my time besides I havent trained anyone in over a century she shouted. Well dear sister these two lads have the blood line of Messah Tohnathan said enjoying the shocked expression on his sisters face. They are cousins one having more of the line than the other but both have the potential to be most powerful Tohnathan continued. But the blood line was, I mean I saw the last of the Messah killed with my own two eyes Rachel said almost inaudibly. yes sister I to thought the blood line was destroyed but we were wrong. These two are the last I am sure Tohnathan said as he waved his hand sending the two floating boys hurling toward the couch stopping just short of the wall. Then lowing his hand the boys landed on the couch gently without misplacing so much as a hair on their arms and legs. How did you find them Rachel asked trying to compose herself. Luck I am afraid I was looking at a map showing all the magic power sources over the rejoin of Ragnok and these two just showed up Tohnathan answered. He ran his finger over a row of books on his bookshelf looking for the right one then pulling it and throwing it at his sister. She easily caught it in her left hand without even glancing toward where it had been thrown. Oh and sister we have other matters to deal with at the time being at least I do Tohnathan stated as he sat down. What could you possibly need to deal with, these are of the line what could be more important frustration showing on her face. They have returned and he is being awakened Tohnathan said coldly. No, it cant be Rachels face went pale at the thought. I helped kill him he cant be awakened again I saw him die her face flushed with worry . That was the problem my dear you killed him and he can only be killed by one of the line of Messah Tohnathan said pointing to the book in his sisters hand. We have 10 years at the most before he will have enough power to make his presence known so you have that time to train these two lads he informed. 10 years that is not much time her mind switching from thoughts of demons to those of training the two children asleep on the couch. I will keep an eye on him while you train them when the time is right I will come for you and the boys and we will have to try again and do it right this time Tohnathan stated somberly. The Gods turned there backs this time dear all save Rantor, we will not have so much help I dont think. The Gods fear for there own life and are not thinking properly about the whole situation many have forgotten the prophecies concerning this Tohnathan finished slamming his fist to push his point home. Brantek will sense the children as soon as he awakens Rachel stated. Yes I know that is why you must take them to the misty glade to train them, King Oberron has consented to help in the training of the children but please dear sister dont lose your temper this time Tohnathan pleaded. I can control myself as long as his warriors can keep there hands and tongues to themselves Rachel promised. Very well then I will send you as far as I can with the lads. From there you will have to find your own way I am afraid it took more of my strength to get these lads than I had hoped Tohnathan said as he rose and walked around his desk. Very well stay safe brother Rachel said with a smile as she walked over to stand beside the lads. Farewell dearest sister Tohnathan said as he began waving his hands in the air followed by a few arcane words. Rachel and the boys vanished along with the couch. Drat I so liked that couch Tohnathan said as he stood dumb founded. |
