OBJECTIVE:

To obtain employment as a veterinary technician so as to further my development as an animal specialist and to strengthen my skills in laboratory diagnostics. I plan to use these skills in pursuit of my career objective to become a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN BIOLOGY, Miami-Dade Community College, Miami, Florida, May 2000.
Currently pursuing Bachelors of Science Degree at Florida International University. Biology major, Chemistry minor, Pre-veterinary medicine specialization, with intended graduation date of May 2004.

EXPERIENCE:

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN, The Bird and Animal Hospital of Pinecrest, 12521 S. Dixie Highway, Pinecrest, Florida.  Dr. Thomas Goldsmith, (305) 259-6677.  Executed radiographic procedures and manual X-ray development. Administered anesthesia, vaccinations, injections, and treatments. Performed intubations prior to surgery. Monitored patients during surgical procedures. Collected and analyzed in house diagnostics of blood, fecal, urine, and tissue samples. Prepared and recorded samples to be sent to outside laboratories for analysis. Rendered physical examination of patients. Monitored and recorded animal health and behavior. Created and updated treatment charts. Dispensed and mixed medications. Assisted with darting, chemical restraint, and transport of primates in the field. Helped with and performed necropsies. Stabilized animals upon admittance. Placed intravenous catheters and administered fluid therapy. Informed presiding doctor of animals’ health conditions. Performed euthanasia when necessary. Set up, conducted, and reported echocardiograms. Prepared and sterilized surgical packs and surgical suites. Assessed temperature, pulse, and respiration of animals. Instructed employees during radiographic procedures and X-ray film development. Sutured superficial wounds and incisions. Expressed bladders of and performed enemas on debilitated patients. Placed and sutured in urinary catheters and drains. Administered  subcutaneous, intravenous, intraperitoneal, intramuscular, and intracardial injections. Carried out urinalysis, blood smears, and parasitology analyses. Directed and trained new employees on emergency protocols.
