KinKi Kids Special Interview (Wink up August):
Doumoto Kouichi's Different Sides
The Other Side of Domoto Kouichi
Due to my different sides, Nagase (Tokio) said he wanted me to play the role of "Sakuraba Yuuichirou".  He was jokingly saying that he strongly felt that I would be someone who would actually brush back my bangs with a hair band?.and well, he's right! (laughs).  I may not be as an extremist as Sakuraba, but I do go to work in very casual sports attire like him (laughs).  See, once you get to the film set, you will have to change into the sponsored attire.  So it makes no difference what you wear to work.

I'm sure everyone has a different side of him at work and at play.  When at work, you will have to consciously keep your spirits up and concentrate at getting your job done.  But unlike what Nagase thinks, I'm not someone who is cool and calm at all times.  Maybe it'll happen during interviews as I'll remind myself constantly to be conscious of my speech.  Well, if one needs to make himself appear cool or Mr. Nice Guy, all he has to do is to know what stuff to say and he will be able to deliver that desired impression.  It's an easy feat!  On the other hand, it's much more difficult to want to express frank views and yet not be misconceived.  No matter what, words in print can never express accurately the actual feeling or thought.  Hence, misunderstanding often arises when the spoken words are misinterpreted in print.  So in order not to create any wrong perceptions, it's only necessary that I'm careful with what I say in response.  You can also say it's a way of being accountable to oneself.

I may not be as thrifty as how Nagase made me out to be, but I'm definitely not a spendthrift as well! (laughs)  For instance, when I have my meals, I'd prefer it to be a simple fare and not anything too expensive or elaborated and I don't really like big crowds either.  That's the kind of life I lead --- Simple!  Although I do have a marry-go-round in my living room! (laughs)  If you ask me if it's the way I conserve my energy for the glamour of the stage?.well, I don't think so.  I behaved differently on stage?  Umm, maybe it's because I'm nervous whenever I'm up there on stage.  I'm surely not putting on a front?.that's me in my most natural self when performing on stage.  That is to say, that's what Domoto Koichi's really like in person.  It's just a matter of whether I want people around me to get in touch with this side of me?.well, every person does have many facades to himself.

I've been kept really busy during this period?..there are "Rookie", "Pop Jam", "Domoto Brothers", "Pikaichi" and the Taiwan/Hong Kong concert.  I'm so exhausted?.it's perhaps the busiest period of my life thus far!  I practically have no time to rest!  But Tsuyoshi and I managed to go for a ride recently.  Well, there was this day that he unusually came up to me and asked "How does it feel to ride a fast car?" (note: Compared to Kouichi's red convertible, Tsuyoshi drives more of a junky car.)  So I suggested " Why don't you come along and have a ride with me in my car?"  So what happened?  He was scared stiff and kept asking "What the heck is this?" (laughs).  I asked him in turn if he wanted to take over the wheels but he replied "Eh?.I'd better give it a miss!" and stayed in the passanger's seat.  I'm sure he must have enjoyed himself despite the "scare" though!

As for Nagase, I've not seen him for a long while.  But I did ring him up when I was in Taiwan for our concert.  Nothing important really but just wanted to say hello.  "So what are you doing now?" I asked.  "I'm at home."  "I'm in Taiwan now."  " Oh yes! So how's Taiwan?"  Just stuff like that, nothing in particular.  It's funny really, calling him all the way from Taiwan without saying much (laughs).  But it made me feel at ease doing so.

I'm now in the midst of recording for the new album.  It's a last minute arrangement and is very tiring because I'm not done with my song composition yet.  I hadn't even started working on my song yet so I had to work on it all day and finally got to finish it at 8 in the following morning.  Hmm, what kind of song will it be like?  I can only say this song will be very different from my past works.  Firstly, the lyrics will be written by Matsuoka of Sophia.  It struck upon me one day to enlist his help when I was just thinking of how to go about with the lyrics.  I wonder how the song will turn out?  What will it be like?  Haha, I did ask him to consider using some alluring terms in the song (laughs).  I'm really looking forward to see what kind of lyrics he's written!  Apart from this, we added some R&B flavoured songs in the new album, so the feel will definitely be different from the past.  I have a feeling that it's gonna be a great album so I hope everyone will look forward to it!
