KinKi Kids "D Album"
KinKi Kids' latest CD, "D Album" (released on December 13, 2000), is one that really shows how much this duo has matured over the past years as musicians and as song-writers. D Album is the fourth album that has followed KinKi Kids' unique, alphabetical way of naming CDs (A album, B album, C album, etc). It consists of 13 songs and if you were lucky to get the first limited-edition press, it comes with an extra thick lyric book with lots of pictures, and a special slide-out case that personally, took me some time to figure out how to get the CD out....hehe
The 1st song "Burning Love" has a long techno, 60 second intro and it is very upbeat and fit to be the first track on the album. Although it is not of my taste, it is the type of song that would grow on you after listening to it for awhile.
The 2nd track, "Back Fire", which is also an upbeat and fast song, has a bit of a disco touch to it. It is very dancable and has a catchy tune.
The 3rd track, "Natsu No Osama" is KinKi's summer single song (theme song for Tsuyoshi's drama "Summer Snow"). This song is cheery too, and would be good to listen to on days that you might feel a little down in the dumps. Both the lyrics and beat are uplifting!
The 4th track, "Misty", has a unique beat that is hard to describe. It is moderate in tempo and the kind of song that you might imagine to hear at a local, casual but stylish coffee shop.
The 5th track, "Angel", is one of my favorites. It's on the slow side, but still has a touch of R&B turn-table sounds in the background. The chorus is catchy and also soothing at the same time .
The 6th track, "Jyunigatsu" (December), is a solo written and composed by Doumoto Tsuyoshi himself.  This is one of my most favorites from this album, but I kinda like some of his other ballads like "Samazama Na Ai" and "Slowly" better. The lyrics of this song are just as beautiful as the melody and I love the last verse of the song, where it comes to a very nice and peaceful closure that always makes my heart melt!
The 7th track, "Nantoka Shimashou" (Let's Do Something About It), has an upbeat tempo and what sounds like a Chinese-style intro. This is a cute song that I also really like.
The 8th track, "Kotae Wa Kitto Kokoro No Nakani" (The Answer is Probably in Your Heart), is a calm song with a tempo that I love! The first verse is sung by Tsuyoshi and the second verse is sung by Koichi. Then, the third and final verse is sung by the both of them. The harmony in the end is excellent! Another song that I really recommend listening to!
The 9th track, "Eien No Hibi..." (Days that Last Forever), is a solo written and composed by Doumoto Kouichi. This is another ballad that is just as romantic as Tsuyoshi's. The melody which is played by piano, really gives a nice touch to it.
The 10th track, "Yokubou No Rain" (Rain of Desire), brings the album back on it's up-tempo track. This song is another of my favorites and reminds me of a combination of past KinKi singles like "Ame No Melody" and "Yamenaide, Pure".
The 11th track, "KinKi Kids Forever", is my ABSOLUTE favorite song on this CD! It has a great intro sang by Tsuyoshi, and has a pop beat that really sounds like an American song. KinKi Kids' English has really improved too! You can really understand what they are singing! I highly recommend hearing this song.
The 12th track, "Mou Kimi Igai Aisenai" (I Can't Love Anyone But You), is a VERY beautiful ballad that was the theme song for Kouichi's drama "Tenshi Ga Kieta Machi" (The City the Angel Disappeared In). Possibly my most favorite slow song by KinKi, this song is truly moving.
The 13th and final track, "Hey! Wa" (Peace), is a very cute and up-tempo song that has even cuter lyrics! At first, this song wasn't very appealing to me, but soon enough, it had grown onto me. I especially like the rap part and cheerful chorus. The play on words is also very clever ("Hey!Wa" = "Hey! Get in a circle" or "Peace!")...a must hear!
Final Thought: "D Album" may be my favorite album out of all of the other previous CDs that KinKi Kids have produced. Overall, most songs are fast and upbeat, while others are a little slower, good for soothing and easing. However, there are also just enough beautiful & slow songs to put you into a romantic mood. Because of the diversity in the types of songs on this album, I'm positive you will find at least one song that suits your taste. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give it a 9.5! I highly recommend checking this CD out!!!
