| KinKi Kids Donnamonya! Radio Program Translations April 1996 Letter from Listener: A few mornings ago, I thought of giving my father a shock by faking death when he came round to wake me up. My father really did think I was dead. Have you guys ever done a thing like this before? Koichi: Fake death? I'm very good at faking sleep. Have you not done a death scene before? Tsuyoshi: Um. But I wasn't sleeping during that time?.instead it was the recent filming of "Young Times" (Wakaba No Koro) that I fell asleep. Koichi: Oh that! The camera was on you grimacing in pain but I didn't hear your groans at all. So I started calling you and you replied me in your drowsy voice, "Uh, what's up?" (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Everyone was actually waiting for me to get up but I fell asleep instead (laughs). Eh, but did you not also fell asleep in "The Files of the Silver Wolf"? Koichi: Oh yes?.I actually slept (laughs). It was during the filming of a surgery scene and when I was being wheeled out of the operation theatre. I was sleeping very soundly that whole time (laughs). Supposed to fake death in the show but ended up falling asleep instead. Tsuyoshi: We really slept. Koichi: So if you ever see anyone of us faint in our shows, it would probably mean we have fallen asleep. June 1996 Letter from Listener: My friends have been spreading this weird rumor recently?they said that Tsuyoshi-kun actually wears a wig. Though I fought hard to defend Tsuyoshi-kun, they still insisted that, "It has got to be a wig!" And they also said that you no longer do any back flips recently. So I will like to hear from you, "Do you wear wigs?" Tsuyoshi: Ah ~ I don't often do back flips! (laughs) Koichi: Nah ~ not "not often" but "never". Tsuyoshi: When he mentioned "recently", when exactly was he referring to?.? I just don't get it, I never did any back flip even in the past, I think! Koichi: Never did back flips before? I think the right way of saying it is that you don't know how to. Tsuyoshi: That's true. But if I ever wear a wig, I'll stop being an idol. This is scary, can you imagine your wig dropping out from your head when you are dancing??!! (laughs) Koichi: I wonder how did this wig rumor come about? It has to be made up, right? Tsuyoshi: Wig? Koichi: What's wrong? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: How can anyone ever think that I wear a wig? I really don't understand why is there such a rumor?. Koichi: But you really "do not do back flips often". Tsuyoshi: Yup, I don't do it. But I still mind the word "recently" (laughs). July 1999 Letter from Listener: Whenever I watch "Love Love Ashiteru", I can't help but wonder why is it that Koichi-kun always wear suits that are obviously not fitting for him? Is it a way to show his cuter side? Tsuyoshi: (laughs) Koichi: Yeah?not to mention the listener, I myself feel the same way too. The last time Tatsuro-san also said to me, " Koichi-kun, this jacket is way too big on you!" Tsuyoshi: Actually we have to wear suits for almost every episode of this show, I should think our suits are like more than 100 pieces with the show running into hundredth episodes by now? I reckon our stylist is racking his brains and perhaps running out of new ideas. Koichi: Maybe?.but why has it got to be me who has to wear all these loose-fitting jackets? Tsuyoshi: Yeah?wonder why? Koichi: Always wear clothes that are one size bigger? Tsuyoshi: I do have a lot of suits that seem to belong to my father's time?.I was just thinking maybe these jackets will continue to live on for a long time? September 1999 Listener: I'm gonna banter Koichi-kun on this?. When performing "Yamenaide - Pure" during Music Station, wasn't there this part when Koichi-kun did a back flip from a platform stage? Well, when I paused my recorded tape at this part, I could see the shape of his underpants from his trousers?.I never expected the Prince to be wearing briefs! Tsuyoshi: But you have always worn briefs right? Koichi: Yeah, I almost always wear briefs. Tsuyoshi: For me, it's mainly boxers. Koichi: Don't you find boxers loose? Tsuyoshi: They are, but some boxers have elastic bands that wrap round your thighs, so you'll not get exposed when you make big movements around. Koichi: Exposed? Where? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Not only that you will not get exposed, they are actually very comfortable. Koichi: Although the shape of my underpants can be traced out by the viewers, I'm still very passionate about wearing briefs (laughs). (Special thanks to Pammy for the translations!!) 2001 Opening Talk: Father's Day Tsuyoshi (reading letter from listener): 'Your shows like "Pikaichi", "Pop Jam", and "Doumto Kyodai" are all filmed in front of a live audience, but which is easier? Filmed before an audience or a privately closed filming?' Kouichi: It doesn't really matter to me. Although when there is an audience you worry about whether they're having a good time or not. Tsuyoshi: Yes, definitely. Kouichi: Yup, and I'm a lot more used to having an audience there. I'm not used to having no audience. Even today, there's an audience here too, and they seem to be enjoying themselves?.haven't I already said enough to make them happy? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: No! (laughs) Kouichi: I'm really sorry. (laughs) See, now I'm the bad guy. Tsuyoshi: This Sunday is Father's Day. (The audience asks "What are your plans?") Hmm?I usually just call to thank my dad. Kouichi: I didn't call my mom on Mother's Day. I totally forgot. Tsuyoshi: I did. It was the last day of our Hong Kong concert, it was an international call. Although it was a little embarrassing. And my mother pretended not to know it was Mother's Day too. She was like "What's up?" But it was obvious that she knew why I was calling. She'll never be able to be an actress. (laughs) Kouichi: You know how my mother's birthday is on May 3rd? I forgot to call then too. I totally forgot. Tsuyoshi: You were quite restless that day. Kouichi: Well, my older sister had sent me an e-mail. It said, "Today was Mom's birthday". Tsuyoshi: "was?" that's past tense. (laughs) Your sister could have written "Today is Mom's birthday". Kouichi: She was probably waiting till the last minute. But I was so busy that day. I really feel bad. Tsuyoshi: Well, when you're busy you tend to lose sight of what day it is. (To the audience) I hope everyone else remembers their parent's birthdays too. Tsukomi KinKi: Being Sexy is a Good Thing, Right?! Kouichi (reading letter from listener): 'Although this is quite sudden, during the chorus in the "Jyounetsu" dance, Tsuyoshi's hips are very sexy. When I look at Kouichi, he doesn't seem as sexy. Is that Tsuyoshi's own personal arrangement? When my father watched Tsuyoshi dance, he said "That boy is alluring girls". Is that a dance to allure girls? Please tell me.' Well, so it says. You're so bad! (laughs) Is that what you were doing all along? Tsuyoshi: Wait, hold on a second. Technically, I don't even like going out in front of people to begin with, so I don't think that's the case?. If you ask me, during those 3 minutes I'm very nervous and I don't even have the chance to think about doing such things. Kouichi: Uh uh, you may say so, but I bet you're really secretly working out the little details. How idecent! (The audience screams, "Dance!") Tsuyoshi: No, I will not dance! I don't see a point in shaking my hips here. (laughs) Kouichi (imitating audience): Dance! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Hey you. What would you do if you were in my position right now? Kouichi: I would never dance, of course. (laughs) Tsuyoshi: See, I knew it! (laughs) But Kouichi-san, I don't think it would hurt to be a little more sexy during that part. Kouichi: No, no. I just faithfully go with the original choreography. But I'm trying to shake my hips too you know. Maybe it's just because you have a big butt? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: That has nothing to do with it. I just have flexible hips. I have a black belt in dancing. Kouichi: That's very funny. (To the audience) C'mon you guys! You have to laugh harder for him! There's no belt ranking system in dancing! Tsuyoshi: Hmmm? (laughs) But I still don't know what the father is talking about. Kouichi: Alluring girls, huh? He's probably absolutely right! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: I am not alluring anybody! If you watch the concerts, the one who's alluring girls the most is you, Kouichi-san. Kouichi: Oh, well that's what I'm trying to do. That's my technique. (The audience screams) Which is Which?: Kouichi's marriage at 47 or 48? Tsuyoshi: The first topic is "who do you think will marry first?" Okay, who thinks Doumoto Kouichi will get married first? (only a few in the audience clap) Who thinks that it will be Doumoto Tsuyoshi? (the whole audience claps) Yup, I think Kouichi will marry late too. 47 or 8 maybe. (laughs) Kouichi: That late huh?! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Yup. 47 or 48 with like a 25-year-old wife. Kouichi: A young wife, huh? But I think I won't get married until I'm past 30 too. Tsuyoshi: 35 or 6 maybe. I have a feeling I'll get married between 28 to 32. If I get married at 26, youll get married at 32. If I get married at 32, you'll get married at about 36. I think you're the type that would watch me get married and then look at the circumstances. Kouichi: No, I doubt that. Tsuyoshi: But you probably will marry late. Kouichi: Well, you never know what will happen in life. I might just have a fateful encounter today. (the audience screams)?while shooting my drama that is. (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Well, you really can't predict what will happen in life. Okay, next question. "Who do you think is a big mouth?" Kouichi-kun? (half of the audience clap) Tsuyoshi-kun? (the other half claps) It's about the same. I don't think I'm a big mouth but it's not like I won't talk at all either. Kouichi: More than being a big mouth, I'd just never say anything to betray my friends. Tsuyoshi: Exactly. If they tell me not to tell anyone, I won't. Okay, the last question. "Who do you think is more lecherous?" Kouichi? (everyone claps) Tsuyoshi? (one person claps) Kouichi: I've got everyone in my trap! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: But technically, all men are lecherous. Kouichi: Yup. Actually, I think it's more embarrassing to hide it. Tsuyoshi: Nah, I think it's better hidden. (laughs) It startles me whenever someone says something perverted during work. (laughs) Kouichi: Wait, you know, it's like when a dog barks to show that he's strong when he's actually weak. So whenever I say something lecherous, it's really because I'm not. Tsuyoshi: That's not very convincing. (laughs) A Regular Beauty Special: They have an aura! Kouichi (reading letter from listener): "I heard that Tsuyoshi-kun always gets stopped by security whenever he enters a tv station, radio station or the Johnnys company headquarters. What about Ko-chan?" Tsuyoshi: Kouichi?(people in the audience yell "does have an aura!") Yeah, he's a real star. Even when I look at him I think that he's a real star. Well, I'm supposed to be a star as well? (laughs) Kouichi: No, when I'm at home that's not true. Tsuyoshi: We aren't talking about when you're at home. (laughs) Kouichi: But I do ride my merry-go-round! (laughs) ~inside joke~ Tsuyoshi: Oh yeah, merry-go-rounds! (laughs) Kouichi: C'mon! Go ahead, say something about it! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Before he knows it, Kouichi probably turns on a switch when he enters a tv station. Me, on the other hand, goes into the tv station, gets my makeup done, comes out of my dressing room, goes to the studio, and then when I hear the staff yell "let's begin", THEN I turn on my star aura switch. Kouichi: You think so? But I've been stopped by security too. He asked me "Where are you going?" NHK (a tv station) is like that. Tsuyoshi: Oh yeah, because NHK has old security guards. I always get stopped by the grandpa security guards too. So whenever I see that the guard man is old, I have to put out some aura. (laughs) Kouichi: Well, Nihon TV had guards that even stopped Giant Baba! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Even when he's that huge! (laughs) Kouichi: Why can't they tell? (laughs) But our boss (Johnny Kitagawa) gets stopped all the time too. (laughs) He's always saying that it's a good thing though because that means that they're doing their job. Tsuyoshi: Yeah, just because they're stars doesn't mean that they should let them through easily. Kouichi: Yup, they may do something bad. (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Well, I don't have the courage so I wouldn't do anything. (laughs) Ask the Prince on the White Horse Anything Special: When will they ever get to do fireworks together? Kouichi: Since so many people have gathered to listen to us today, I Doumoto Kouichi, will answer any question. If you have a question please raise your hand. (A lot of hands go up in the audience) Okay, how about you? Girl: Ko-chan, have you gone to Tsuyoshi-kun's house yet? Kouichi: That's a good question. Nope! (laughs) Oh, but I did go to the front of it though the other day. Tsuyoshi: Yup, in Kouichi's car. Kouichi: Tsuyoshi sitting in the front seat. Tsuyoshi: Yeah, but when we went to your house, as soon as we got there you went into the garage. Even though I was having a little hope? Kouichi: What? You wanted to come in? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Well, Kouichi had asked me if I wanted to go for a little ride in his car, so I said yes, and we arrived at Kouichi's house so I thought Kouichi was going to invite me in for something to drink or something but he just went into the garage and got his car. (laughs) Kouichi: You wanted to come in? You should have told me! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Well, I thought it would have been a good topic to talk about at shows and stuff, that I finally went to your house. Kouichi: Next time then. I really want to go to your house too. Tsuyoshi: You can come after you're done with your drama. Kouichi: That's what you always say! Just invite me already! (laughs) Tsuyoshi: But you're busy right now, right? It'll be easier for me to invite you when you're done with your drama. Kouichi: You better not forget to invite me over. It would never be a bother to me. Tsuyoshi: Okay, then just call me when you're done filming your drama and you're bored. Kouichi: What?? That's a little embarrassing? (laughs) Tsuyoshi: Don't worry. Also, like we said last year, let's do fireworks this summer. Kouichi: Yeah. I have a lot of fireworks at home. Tsuyoshi: We keep saying that we'll do fireworks every year but we never do? Behind the Scenes... As Kouichi and Tsuyoshi entered the radio station, they were greeted with 120 lucky, screaming girls. Kouichi had filming for "Rookie!" at 6 in the morning, so he was wearing his yellow jacket costume. Upon entering, Kouichi shouted, "I'm Aida Makoto! Is this a case?!" As for Tsuyoshi, he jokingly said "We're here at the studio with 5 million, 5 thousand people in front of us!" This day's radio program was sponsored by the Morinaga Candy Company, so the whole studio was full of chocolate snacks. The two immediately started snacking on some chocolate while saying, "This chocolate cookie is really crunchy and delicious!" However, in the middle of the program, Kouichi spilled some cream from the cookie on his shirt. Kouichi screamed, "Ah! This is my borrowed costume from filming! I still have some scenes to shoot today!" as he desperately tried to rub the stain off from his shirt. The show must go on, so as Kouichi was panicking Tsuyoshi calmly contined the program by making up a short song for the "Sakyoku zutton! Zutton! Zutton!" segment. He sang, "Aida Makoto no makoto ni gomen!" (I don't need Aida Makoto's makoto (sincerity)!) But, the two of them were in such high spirits that they went over the reserved time and before the whole program could come to an end, Kouichi had to return to finish shooting "Rookie!" As soon as Tsuyoshi was all alone, the tension in the studio went down but this was Tsuyoshi's own individual style so the audience was very satisfied. All 120 happy listeners went home with radiant smiles on their faces that day. BACK |
