Diesel Fuels Career
-WENN, 27 September 2001
Vin Diesel will earn more than $11 million to star as the lead character
in The Chronicles Of
Riddick, the sequel to the 2000 sci-fi film Pitch Black. Chronicles, which
has yet to find a
director, will be released in the summer of 2003. The in-demand actor was
still in talks late on Tuesday to take up the role. He had been
considering a rival offer to play the title role in
Daredevil, a Fox adaptation of the Marvel Comics serial about a blind
lawyer who becomes a superhero. He instead chose to reprise the Riddick role he originated in
the David Twohy-directed Pitch Black.
Vin Diesel: I Don't Want To Be An
Action Hero
- WENN, 20 September 2001
Hollywood's newest hardman Vin Diesel is happy to stick to playing bad
boys on screen, insisting he has no desire to be an action hero like Bruce
Willis or Pierce Brosnan. The actor admits he's flattered by those who
believe he's got what it takes to be a movie good guy, but he'd rather be
a villain. He says, " I've heard a lot of people say that I'm going
to be the next action hero. Well, that's incredibly flattering, but
honestly I don't approach an action film any different than I would
something like Saving Private Ryan. If I'm going to be the next action
hero, don't think for a moment I'm going to disregard the acting and think
that the action can take over. The acting is what I need to do. Hopefully,
people see that in the work. Hopefully, you're being entertained by the
character. We don't learn anything from the whitewashed heroes. We learn
from the imperfect. You learn more from guys like Robert De Niro in Raging
Bull than you do from James Bond."
Vin Diesel's Perfect Act
- WENN, 31 August 2001
Rising star Vin Diesel believes his time as a Hollywood bouncer has made
him the man he is today. The Pitch Black actor is a perfectionist who
takes his work deadly seriously, and worries that other actors may think
he is just being difficult. The strapping actor who recently hit box
office gold with The Fast And The Furious says, "I am adamant about
perfection and do take work very seriously, so in the face of 'Just tell
me where to stand' actors, I guess I'm difficult." Diesel, who had a
part in Saving Private Ryan, can't stand boring movies, "I care about
making the most of the film and I want people to get as excited as I am.
Pitch Black could very easily have been Supernova... am I right? The
reality is films can be bland all the time unless there are people who are
adamant about making it real."

Diesel Puts His Foot Down For Romance
- WENN, 3 July 2001
Love was in the air on the set of the The Fast And The Furious. Co-stars Vin Diesel and Michelle
Rodriguez did not have to act too much to play lovers in the hit drag-race movie. The
rough-and-tumble couple fell for each other on the set, and their relationship heated up in
recent weeks. Rodriguez, who shot to It Girl status as the star of
Girlfight, was canoodling
Diesel at Float on Thursday night. The next morning, she told shock jock radio host Howard Stern
that Diesel "will be a part of my life for a very long time."
Vin Diesel Studied For Racing Role
- WENN, 28 June 2001
American actor Vin Diesel is dazzling audiences with his high speed escapades in his new movie
The Fast And The Furious, but he had to go to school to learn how to look so cool. Diesel
attended stunt-driving school in Las Vegas, Nevada, for his role as a streetwise racer in the
movie, so that he could look convincing. But the star found the experience all too
gruelling. He says, "School started at 6am, and I'd be just getting back to my hotel room thinking, 'How can I
at least make it look like I slept?'" Diesel plays the king of the Los Angeles street-racing
scene. The film follows his uneasy friendship with a new kid on the block, who turns out to be an
undercover cop.
Vin Diesel Surprised At Sex Symbol Status
- WENN, 22 June 2001
The Fast And The Furious star Vin Diesel is stunned with his sex symbol status - because he makes
no effort to gain female admirers. The 33-year-old New York native admits that, despite his past
days of working hard to attract the attentions of females, he's still shocked
that he's gained such a gathering of fans. He says, "I never thought of myself as a sex symbol, and it's the one
claim that kind of makes me blush. It feels so bizarre, because I've always been an extrovert,
I've always worked to get any attention or admiration. So it's bizarre to be charged with these
things without having to work for it. But it's very, very flattering."
Vin's Cuban Embarrassment
- WENN, 21 June 2001
Movie star Vin Diesel escaped an embarrassing penniless vacation when he was rescued by a rich
fan. The up-and-coming actor foolishly forgot to take cash with him on a recent trip to Cuba,
leaving instead with a wallet full of bank cards - useless in the communist country. Diesel says,
"I didn't think I needed cash because I thought I could go anywhere in the world and use my
credit cards. So stupid. It's amazing that you can go to another country and you are powerless.
Anyway, we charge up this bill and no-one knows me and then this couple, one gentleman from Tel
Aviv that was like selling arms or something and this lady that was sort of this Saudi Arabian
princess, had seen me in Pitch Black the night before. His girlfriend gave us the money for
everything and for our tickets home. She couldn't believe we were down there and we had a blast
and the next day she came to our rescue."
