It's Yukata Time!
Well, it is summer in Japan and that can only mean a couple of things, yukatas and fireworks. A yukata is a simple cotton kimono worn during the hot summer months. I decided to get one made since I do not weigh 80lbs or wear an A-cup and those are the prerequisites if you want to buy a ready made one here in Japan. Shota tagged along when we went to pick up my yukata and Enishi and I decided to dress him up too :-) We ended up buying him a jimbei which is a wrap around top and shorts that the young guys wear instead of yukatas. Summer in Japan is alll about wearing your yukatas and jimbeis to watch the fireworks.
It's ready!
Or the white one
Enishi's fitting
Or this one?
I like it!
This is the store where I bought my yukata and it is in the middle of Shinjuku. Enishi hadn't planned on buying anything, but since it is the summer time, the ready made yukatas are ridiculously cheap. My custom made one cost me 15,000 YEN (about $140) and the an extra 5,000 YEN for the obi (~$40). Enishi's set on the other hand included a yukata, an obi, zori (slippers), and a bag for only 9,000 YEN. It is pays to be skinny.
