About Joyleaf Sídhe

Joyleaf Sídhe
Joyleaf’s earliest memories include reading books such as “Where the Wild Things Are”, and Dr. Seuss, and watching fantasy films such as “The Last Unicorn” (soon to be a live action movie), “The Hobbit”, “Legend”, “Labyrinth” and others. As she got older, her obsession with fantasy grew as she read more books, such as “The Chronicles of Narnia”, “The Lord of the Rings” and “Elfquest” and, with her discovery of films such as “Indiana Jones”, “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”, began to encompass the wider range of Sci-Fi. Having a father in the military meant moving around constantly. Joyleaf was able to discover and explore new “worlds” all the time. She began writing at a very young age, mostly fantasy and sci-fi but also general fiction. Ever a faithful fan of shows like “Thundercats”, “Voltron”, “The Pirates of Dark Water”, and “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, she even began to write scripts for these shows. She also began to draw. Not only pictures, but also a few comics. (Let us never speak of those again.)

In her teenage years, she joined a Star Trek club and discovered Role Playing Games, such as Dungeons & Dragons as well as Japanese Anime/Manga. Then came the X-Files. A show that, at first, sometimes combined Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Joyleaf’s interest was piqued. And then, it was gone. Joyleaf discovered the Goth scene. Not exactly into the whole “Goth Attitude” of “the world is against me. I am so alone.” but more into the “Goth Fashion”, Joyleaf loved how some of it resembled the dress of earlier times.
In the year 2000, Joyleaf discovered the wonders of the King Richard’s Faire! It is held every year in Carver, MA in a village-like setting filled with shoppes, eateries, medivle games and revelry. Finally, a place to call home. A while later, Joyleaf began to hear tell of a wonderous book called “Harry Potter”. But what is this? Surely a “children’s book” cannot captivate an adult audience? After all, we grew up with the greats! J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis, among others! Off with you! I’ll have none of that. It was not until the movie came out that Joyleaf came to know this new world. Friends of hers were going to see the movie and invited her to go along. “I shall,” she said, “but only because Alan Rickman is in it.” And so it was that Joyleaf saw “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. Simply brilliant! She rushed out at once and bought the book, knowing that books are nearly always better than their movie counterparts. Before the movie was released on DVD, she had already read all the “Harry Potter” books available. Soon, she began singing the praises of J.K. Rowling and her wonderful story, at home, at work, everywhere! Freely admitting that she had been wrong about “Harry Potter” up 'til then.
Joyleaf was married to her high school sweetheart in 2002 and her husband is also a great fan of books (and Elfquest). Joyleaf introduced him to “Harry Potter” and he found it delightful (although he has yet to read the latest installment “Order of the Phoenix”). In 2003, they had a baby girl, named Raven Leilani, who they hope will one day grow to love books as much as they.
