Gun Control

There is a lot of controversy in response to Canadas new gun control
laws, also known as Bill C-68. There are many questions being asked, Is
it constitutional? Does it work? If you ask me Id say we all have the
right to bear arms, and that we should put far more work into
controlling the criminals and irresponsible gun owners, instead of
punishing the hundreds of thousands of responsible guns owners.

In 1995 the federal Government introduced Bill C-68. Basically it made
it so all firearms had to be registered, and all gun owners must have a
valid licence to purchase ammunition, and acquire or possess guns.
First
of all, I dont think that gun registration works at all, I mean sure
we could get the responsible gun owners to pay to get their guns on the
governments list, but what good does that do? Because when you think
about it theres no way a criminal would walk into the local police
station and register his or her guns!

Although I would rather have no gun laws at all, the licencing system
seems pretty fair. You must pass a safety test to get a licence to
possess and acquire firearms as well as to buy ammunition. It takes
twenty eight days to seven months to receive your new licence, but in
many cases they just give you a temporary possession only licence
that is only valid for six months!    I know it must be hard to process
hundreds of thousands of applications at one time, but really, dont
start what you cant finish.

Is there an alternative? I really believe if the government could put
more emphasis on stopping the criminals and irresponsible gun owners,
instead of taking the right of bearing arms away from its responsible
tax paying citizens, we would all be a lot better off.
