Sunland Hospital
For the Physically and Mentally ill. - Tallahasse, Fl.
In 1952 the doors opened for the first time as the W.T. Edwards Tuberculosis Hospital. Patients needing treatment would seek out this hopital. As the cure for Tuberculosis was discovered, the hospital suffered, as the number of patients it used to treat for this disease had drastically declined. The hospital soon was forced to close it's doors.

In 1967 the hospital had been renovated and re-opened as Sunland Hospital for the physically and mentally ill, an extension of Sunland Hospital in Orlando, Fl. March 14th, 1967, Sunland began to get it's first patients. They were transported from the Orlando hospital.

Over time, rumors depicting inhumane treatment of patients evolved. Which consisted of: Electroshock therapy treatment of patients. It is rumored they would wrap the patients in cold damp towels and sit them in chrome tubs filled with small amounts of water and give them shock treatments to stop ongoing fits. Isolation, by leaving the patients locked up in a windowless room with only padded walls. It is also rumored how they would leave the smaller children alone in their cribs with bars for days on end to starve and sit in their own bodily waste. The rumors were spreading fast and lawsuits were being filed on the mistreatment of patients at Sunland.

In the early 1980's, as the lawsuits piled up, Sunlands funding was drasticaly reduced. Sunland could no longer afford the much needed renovations to bring the hospital up to code. By the end of 1983, Sunland was forced to close it's doors once more. The HRS department had planned to turn the hospital into an executive office complex, but this never came to be. Thus leaving the hospital abandoned.

Stories of Sunland and the mistreating of patients soon began to circulate, bringing on curiosity seekers who took the chance on entering this old building in hopes of getting a good scare. Along with the curiosity seekers it brought the homeless who knew the building had been abandoned and reckless and disrespectful kids that vandolized the property.

It is said that this old building holds very sad memories. Some say you can catch a glimpse of ghostly residents, hear loud noises and feel the sadness within the walls of this abandoned hospital.

No Trespassing signs have been posted warning visitors that this deteriorating building is unsafe and poses a potential threat of asbestos and lead poisoning, not to mention you can be arrested!
