ROSEVILLE, MN- Back to the icebox for Senser's. After enjoying a sun-drenched 60-degree day last week, it was back to temps in the 40s and strong winds. It seemed like good Senser's weather for the big clash against the heavy hitting Waconia Arctic Cat team, another team toward the top of the standings. After a tight struggle all game, the Arctic Cats came up with a big 4-run 7th to pace themselves to a 12-9 win. "Those guys were tough out there- they could field it and hit it, and we just kind of gave it away at the end," manager Pete Fanucci said after the loss. "It really hurt that we had back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the 6th and 7th...we kind of lost our mojo after Biebl got face-tagged in the 5th." Fanucci, a little more fired up than normal, got the guys in the dugout and gave a rousing speech in between games in an attempt to light a fire after that disappointing loss. "Really, I didn't know how to react to it," third baseman Mike Dirksen said. "I mean, I get back from New Hampshire ready for some ball, but I wasn't expecting Fanucci to be extolling the team on to victory like that. I liked the intensity out of him...he's following well in Lasorda's footsteps."
The message took a while to sink in to the Senser's team, but when it did, it took hold as strong as Biebl holding a beer. With Senser's hanging on to a 2-1 lead in the top of the third, Trash Rosner hit a double, igniting an insane barrage of extra base hits. Tim Bruns roped a 3-run double...Dirksen hammered a double...Mike Kennedy hit a double...even Fanucci hit a double, his first extra-base hit in 1 1/2 years. "That email from MJ must've really pissed him off," girlfriend Jayme Forstrom said. As if to punctuate the point, Fanucci yelled a loud "suck on that, MJ!" from his station at second. Dan Hinrichs then came up to smash a triple to right, a triple he tried to stretch into a home run but failed. "Must've been that half stuffed crust pizza I ate," a dusty Hinrichs said. "Either that or my lack of speed." Even after that, Senser's was not to be stopped, as Trash roped another double, Bill Remick crushed a dong to center, Christian Peterson doubled, and Brette Hjelle doubled. When all was said and done, Senser's had 10 extra base hits in the inning, 7 in a row, and put up 11 runs to doom the Arctic Cats. Hjelle held the Cats down, striking a few guys out and narrowly missing a few others, and Senser's had their 10-run-rule victory, a 14-3 landslide. Senser's even forced the flip-flop that game, something they were very used to being on the wrong side of last year.
The quick win enabled the team to get to the bar early and get some big tickets for the wheel spinning. Almost instantly, Dirksen and Rosner were called to the wheel, and Rosner returned with a classy Jim Beam T-shirt. "There's nothing sexier that white Trash in a T-shirt," Fanucci said after Rosner came back with his win. Dirksen, on the other hand, came back with a big zonk. "The wheel's tough this year...I was following Jayme's lack of success from the law school library and I knew it was going to be ugly when I got my chance. I needed that warm-up to set me up for later on though." #1 bar performer Hinrichs also zonked, enabling Trash to catch him, as did former #1 Mike Biebl. Biebl wasn't too concerned about the loss on the wheel, as he was regulating with the beers on the table. When asked about the beers, Biebl responded with a classic "hey f--ker, the (pitcher) in front of me is the one I'm f--kin' in charge of." Over on the corner table, Remick was still talking about his home run and how he'll be passing the greats on the list anytime. "I'm well on my way to catching Mays and his 660 homers," Remick boasted over a highly disputed salad. "That's really disputed, especially for a player," Christian Peterson said as he enjoyed Miller Time. "You don't come into the sports bar all dirty and sweaty from softball and order a salad, especially when there's about 15 pitchers of beer on the table. That should be worth an MVMP right there."
Things got pretty out of control later on in the night, as Greg "Tree Farm" Hartley put some major heat on #1 fan Susan Hansen with a $54 win (2 Twins tickets, sweet seats). "I thought that $60 lead was safe," Hansen said. She then started spouting off crazy talk, as she told roommate Darren Pieper that "Hinrichs will give you head," a statement Hocking immediately disputed and will be putting in the BS/Gay Focker section of the website. "I'd hate to see what she'd volunteer me for if someone actually passed her in the fan standings," Hocking muttered after that BS claim. Dirksen atoned for his loss on the wheel by being drawn for the big spin of the night and coming through with a $50 win, laying the groundwork for him to be the #1 bar performer. "All I need is extra credit trips here, and I'll- oh my God, what the hell was that??" Dirksen's shock was caused by Fanucci's proposition to the entire bar, "All right, who wants to do a blowjob with me?" Jumping at the chance was girlfriend Jayme, who took the shot and swallowed it down, a fact not unnoticed by Biebl. Even the old school "get a room, let me watch" was broken out after that. Later on in the night, birthday girl Renae Siewert dumped a beer on Fanucci, leading Pete to tell her to "have another"...yes, Joe Senser's Bar and Grill in Roseville is no longer a family establishment.
Next week's game is at 6:00- actually, 4 of the next 5 are early.
Swelvax Player of the Week:
Mike Kennedy/Brette Hjelle. Both players went 5-for-6 from the plate, with Kennedy roping 2 doubles and Hjelle hitting one. Kennedy turned in a stellar defensive performance on first, and Hjelle pitched great, striking a few guys out and holding the Cats to 3 runs in the second game.
MVMP, presented by Mike Biebl:
Eastiro. A statement from the manager- "The 23rd was probably one of the biggest doubleheaders of the season. I needed my top players to come through and they knew it.. Unfortunately one of the best flundered and didn't come through when his team was in need. This hurt us the first game and
could of been the reason we didn't quite pull through. Unfortunatley if
I keep seeing this menatlity I may have to drop him down to the Minors
AKA Co-ed ball."
