The Bug's World ![]()
All About Me...
I currently live in San Diego, but I grew up in Huntington Beach, otherwise known as Surf City, USA. For some reason, everyone I
meet has
either lived in Huntington Beach or knows someone that lives or has lived in good ol' HB. And yes, in case you haven't noticed, people from HB are very proud of it! Go visit my hometown and take a walk on our pier or shop in one of my favorite stores, Huntington Surf and Sport. We also have the Surfing Walk of Fame, the Surfing Hall of Fame and the International Surfing Museum.
Hmm...more about me. Let's see, I grew up in a fairly "normal" family, or as normal as families can be, and they're the reason the nickname "bug" has stuck. Apparently, I was so small I looked like a bug when I was a baby. (I think I should be insulted, but hey, I'm the youngest in the family, so I have to p
ut up with it.)
One of my sisters is an artist and has some of her work online. I have a pretty large extended family and feel so fortunate to have grown up with so many different people! Anyway, I attended Patchwork Pre-school and Vessels Elementary in Cypress. When we moved to Huntington Beach, I started out at Harbor View, then off to College View, Marine View, and then Marina High School. Finally, I went to Warren College at UCSD, where I received a BS in Management Science and a BA in Political Science. Right now, I'm taking a little sabbatical from the working world and just trying to figure out what I want to do with my life and if I want to stay on my current career path in the financial world.
Volunteering is a very big part of my life. Recently, most of my volunteering has been with a local youth ministry in La Jolla called The Gathering. I was very active with the group for about 9 years, and although I absolutely love it, I've taken a bit of a step back from it for a bit to concentrate more on other aspects of youth ministry. It's a great way to counsel teens while sharing and strengthening my own faith with the kids and other core members. I love my kids and try to devote as much time to them as possible and many of them have taken me on as a big sister. Besides counseling and just volunteering to do whatever, I've also been the designated photographer for a lot of the events. In August of 2000, the year of the Jubilee, we made an unforgettable trip to Europe for World Youth Day 2000. It was a wonderful, peaceful (yet sometimes hectic!) pilgrimage as we traveled from Paris to Lourdes to Assisi and finally to Rome and the Vatican. During the summer of 2002, we participated in another World Youth Day, this time in Toronto. The week was filled with prayer, tears, love, and laughter. This year's Steubenville Youth Conference theme was Unchanging (Isaiah 26:4). I'm sorry I missed it this year, as I heard it was yet another amazing weekend!

I love surfing, the beach, marine life (especially dolphins), almost anything that has to do with the ocean and water, music, ice cream, photography, and all kinds of art, and most sports. Of course, in addition to being with the kids, I love hanging out with my friends. One by one, my friends are
getting married and having babies, but I'm happily single for now! With the amount of time I devote to my friends, family, and "kids," it wouldn't be fair to a husband or even boyfriend now. I also love traveling and get pretty antsy when I've been home for too long. Even a short little trip will placate me...well, for a while at least. Some of my favorite places include Hawai'i and various parts of Europe, especially places with castles and cathedrals. I'd love to experience more of the world! You can see a few photographs that I've taken on some of my trips.
One a more serious note, I have been a chastity counselor, as well as a crisis (rape, suicide, pregnancy, & post-abortion, eating disorders) counselor, for a few years now. I actively support a number of pro-life groups, such as Feminists for Life. It's probably one of the most actively political and legislative things in which I'm involved. Because of my pro-life position, I love spending time with babies and kids, and just treasuring each and every new (and old!) life.
I’m very into music and listen to almost all kinds. Someone told me that I’m “musically diverse,” and I guess that’s true, but I'm also brutally honest when it comes to critiquing music; just ask my friends who are musicians! People who hang around me long enough will notice that my music tends to go with my moods! Some current and all-time favorites are The Offspring, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, NFG, Weezer, Toad the Wet Sprocket (yes, I know they’re no longer together), Social D, Green Day, Nickelback, Matchbox 20, Aerosmith, Incubus, Creed, Counting Crows, Barenaked Ladies, and, well, too many others to list! I'm also a big supporter of bands that my friends and friends of friends are in (or were in): Somewhere In Between, Sneak Preview, The Danton Boller Group, The Jazz Mandolin Project, Skelpin, Matador Blues, The Red, The Fold, and Mike Kinnebrew.
